I love both song equally
Voices: Awesome Lyrics, Best solo ever, awesome vocals... I just love it.
The Silent Man: Same as above but with an acoustic guitar.
Best DT suite ever.

7.- A Change Of Season
First DT epic.
I love this song from the intro to the end, great 7-string  work by Petrucci, I love Derek's work here to, the big lead solo is amazing.
Great drum parts and the best lyrics Portnoy has done.
And of course, the "another world" section.
DT's only epic full of magic.

Its mostly about Portnoy going through a whole bunch of things in his life (His mother dying being one of them). The title is a metaphor for the seasons of life and how they change.

Okay so he learned about Carpe Diem in school or something, and his teacher told him to cherish what he had in life. That evening, his mother would be flying on a plane. He said a special good bye to her with the lesson in mind. She died that night on the plane. Or something like that I think.
