This was easy to get through because of the song lengths, which makes me wonder how I'm going to get through the long song round
. Anyway, onto the results!
Round 5 Results:Luoto
Amendfoil - "Skyline Escape"
I really love this track, easily one of my favorites of the round. This song is beautifully constructed with lots to unpack if you care to do so. I feel like it's really tough to put vocals over a track that sounds so busy but it's pulled off masterfully here and big props to the drummer who pulls off an incredible performance.

Cursive - "Some Red-Handed Sleight Of Hand"
Fantastic little song. For a song that is so short I love that it has a more traditional song structure. There are a lot of pop punk elements here that I enjoy plus the addition of the strings mix in the back a great dimension to the song.

John Petrucci - "Necrominicon: Prologue"
I thought I've heard this track before somewhere but I clearly haven't (or maybe I'm getting old and forgot). This song is actually a great representation of what is now JP's modern playing and by extension modern DT, hell even the intro could be used on the next DT epic. The playing is stellar as always and I think my only complaint here would be that it feels a bit disjointed near the later half when the shredding part comes in. That's really the only thing that keeps it from earning a 5.

The Beatles - "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window"
Abbey Road is the one Beatles album I'm really familiar with from the Beatles catalog so I can't believe I didn't rank it on RYM. Anyway, as my first impression states this song is one of the best from The Beatles. The song writing is so tight here, there is no filler, it's slim and trim and leaves a great taste in your mouth after it's finished. Like drinking a good expresso coffee.

Rishloo - "Just A Ride"
As I mentioned in my message to you Rishloo has been on my list of bands to check out since my last roulette 10 years ago. I'm happy every time I hear something new from the band and this is no exception. One thing that's stood out for me is their ability to create this great moody tracks. It reminds me a little bit of the first A Perfect Circle album. I'm also really surprised at how well the vocals are mixed. He comes in with a lot of power and it can get a little tiring to listen to if he was mixed any hotter.

The Misfits - "Hybrid Moments"
This round is perfect for punk music. I went through a punk phase back in high school and this song wants me to bust the studded belts. I'm a little surprised at how melodic this song is. It's a fun little piece of music.

Battles - "Snare Hunger"
A really fun rhythmic track. It’s not so abstract that it's hard to follow but interesting enough to keep you engaged. The song could work as a standalone track or as a filler leading to something else on the album. Whatever it is, I like it.

ASTERISM - "Midnight Hunger"
Love the balls-to-the-wall energy. Nice, high energy playing by everyone here but despite the songs length the main guitar riff gets a little tired by the end song. They could've added a little bit more with the bassist, maybe a solo or something would've been cool.

Widek - "Meridian"
Captures the essence of the round perfectly. Feels like a complete song in under 2 minutes. It's quick, to the point, and packs in some decent riffing in one tiny package

Disasterpeace - "Home"
Hey it's a song off the FEZ soundtrack! I always enjoyed the soundtrack of the game and at parts enjoyed it more than the actual game. It's a nice relaxing little sythwave track. Taken out of context of the video game the track stands up pretty well on it's own but it sort of falls into the background (which I get is the point of a video game soundtrack) but that also has the negative effect of becoming forgettable. Still though, soundtracks rarely do it for me but this is the exception (along with the JP track)

The Smiths - "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want"
Sonically this is probably the best of the round. The mix is gorgeous and makes me feel like I'm lost in a dream. Compositionally the song does well here too but I think it would've benefitted from being longer, there are some ideas here that I would've liked explored more.

Strong Bad - "Trogdor"
Man I haven't thought of Strong Bad in years so this was a really fun treat to listen to again. I don't ever remember hearing this version, only seeing the original on the web series. As a song it's pretty fun, not something I'd listen to but a song that I can't help but smiling due to the memories associated with it. It sort hits the same spot as Tenacious D, it's good but I have to be in the right mood to listen to it.

The Fall Of Troy - "Problem!?"
This song feels like it's put together by 10-20 second vignettes of ideas. It's not bad but a little tough to follow. I do wish they trimmed it a bit and stuck to a few ideas because there is a lot of great stuff happening here, it just doesn't last long enough to be impactful.

Styx - "The Fight Of Our Lives"
Huh, not really what I expected, however this song perfectly captures the sound of the 70's, hrmm when did this album come out? *Checks Spotify* hrmm 2021, must be a reissue, *checks RYM*. WHAT THIS CAME OUT IN 2021? The must of walked in a studio that is a time capsule from the early syth era. I've never checked out Styx before but this is like Queen if Queen didn't include the "No Synthesizers" note on their records. It's good if not a little bland, it seems a little incomplete to me.

Thoughts Factory - "Light"
Delicate and pretty piano playing accompanied by vocals that are a little too overwrought/dramatic. I don't know the vocals just don't sync up with the piano underneath. The piano melody and the harmonies near the end save the score a little bit.

Mastodon - "Crusher Destroyer"
I love the crunchy riffs here but the vocals don't do it for me. I'd have to be in a very specific mood to listen to this track. Fantastic drum performance (Mastodon always seems to have killer drum tracks) and fun to hear the Jurassic Park intro.
