And I’m in the Metro Richmond area.
We've driven from Mass to Florida at least 35 times. Richmond, to me, was always an important road mark.
Driving south, once we drove through Richmond, it was like being jettisoned to outer space, meaning the trip became so much more spacious and relaxing. Everything north of Richmond is such a pain in the ass.
I also remember about 10 miles maybe? south of Richmond on 95 there's an on ramp/off ramp interchange that always reminded me of the Systematic Chaos album cover.
Yeah 95 north from Doswell and beyond is a nightmare. If I’m going north I just take Rt 1 or 301, avoid the highway as much as I can.
And I know the exact interchange you’re talking about. The intersection of 95, 895, and Chippenham Pkwy. 895 is a private highway for the rich folks to avoid the airport traffic. I made the mistake of getting on there once, and there was a $5 toll. I had exactly $5 in cash on me
If you ever get down to Atlanta, watch out for “spaghetti junction”. That interchange had to be the inspiration for Systematic Chaos.
