Eurovision Finals this Saturday; anybody watching?
« on: May 14, 2013, 08:42:21 AM »
I'm having friends come over for a BBQ for the event as usual. I haven't really read much about the acts, I hope there's some hilarious ones. Loved the singing Russian grannies last year.

Can't imagine I will, although going to a house-warming party so they may have it on there! The UK just doesn't take Eurovision seriously at all, people here generally don't really care.

In Germany it has become this party event essentially, that's why most of our submissions over the years have been joke submissions.

This weekend? Hell yeah! I watch it every year. I really have no idea what the fuss was with the Russian Grannies though. They weren't entertaining at all, not even for the usual "so bad it's good" factor.

I always like to go in fresh, so I don't know what any of the acts are. Surprise me, Eurovision. Surprise me.

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Hey, the camp appeal of Eurovision is truly universal!
Over here we have our own hosts doing commentary over the show, and interviewing the contestants inbetween, and they're always taking the piss out of it, so it makes for a good watch.

The best part about them winning was the next year, when there were a lot of rock/metal acts trying to emulate their success.

I went to Ozzfest just to see them lol. We left after they played. I remember one of their flaming wheels behind them didn't end up spinning. It looked like a flaming stationary swastika  :lol

Oh Lordi!  :heart

But when we're already talking about this subject don't forget Norway:

Altough i wished they competed with The Divine Land instead.

I have no idea what Eurovision is or why Chino posted a Gwar video.

Well, I know that was not actually GWAR, but I thought it was a relatively obvious joke.  But as far as having no clue what Eurovision is, yet, I was completely serious.

When Eurovision was held in Serbia, I seriously considered going with my sister (we were huge Finnish metal geeks) just to see these guys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TheV9eBTT3Q

Maybe. I know my mom and sister will watch but I don't know. I am usually more curious about the music after it has happened becuase sometimes there are a few songs that are actually pretty good. I heard Norway's song is really good so I will at least listen to the album when it has been released.

I got the joke. I'm pretty sure that it's like American Idol, except most of the contestants have musical talent.

It seems pretty cool, although I'll have to figure out when it is so I can record it.

Lordi was my introduction to the world of hard rock/metal :D They had never heard of GWAR until when they toured the USA after the Eurovision victory and I'm not surprised, because GWAR are totally unknown in Finland.

I watched the contest a couple of times after 2006, hoping Finland would win again, but our streak of miserable losses has continued normally. Nowadays I couldn't care less about Eurovision and I'm not expecting Krista Siegrieds to be a success - I hadn't even heard her song until 2 days ago and now I wish I hadn't listened to it! :lol

BTW, I still think it's a crying shame that Thunderstone wasn't chosen to represent Finland in 2007.

This event takes up way too much media attention. And most songs suck.

It’s been nine years since we reached the finals. Anouk is a great artist and I’m glad she’s one of the finalists. It’s quite a quality song, but so totally not Anouk—even though she still did her own thing: no dancing, no pop performance, just her and the microphone.

Well, my country made it through to the finals for the first time since nine years with this song:

I liked Finland. Really a pop princess, but it works. I dig her voice. A mixture of Katy Perry and Avril Lavigne.

Norway is pretty in-your-face awesome. Her voice, though good, is not that interesting, though. And then I don’t mean it’s because she doesn’t do any virtuoso stuff (I dig that about her and the song).

Iceland is pretty good.

I might watch it, if only to reassure myself that the rest of Europe still hates us! I'm not quite sure why we chose Bonnie Tyler to represent us, we should go for a proper comedy act one year.

I understand why Romania reached the finals. It is an impressive song and very catchy. I wish he would have varied more with his range, though.

Ukraine. Good song, fantastic voice, though a bit overdone. But what a woman!!!
