I didn't know that song was used for Rocky IV, but then I've never seen it all the way through. It's definitely not Eye Of The Tiger

No, it definitely isn't.

Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence

Honestly, don't know the tune.

wait, really!?  This was a huge hit for them.

I was wondering that, too.  I mean this is called the "MTV in the 80s Song of the Day" thread, the emphasis mostly being on songs that were played a lot of MTV, and if you were an MTV viewer in the 80s, I don't know how you could have missed that song. ???

MTV = US.

Don't recall it being on MuchMusic up here.  Plus, wasn't a fan of Depeche Mode at all, so if it ever did come on (radio or tv), it was sure to get an instant channel/station change.

I'll back Chad up a bit here.  I know and like the tune, but as I said in Australia this wasn't a hit and was never played.  There wouldn't be many people here that would know the song unless they are a fan of the band.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence

I think this was the one song by them I actually liked at the time when it was first out.  It has aged well, too.  Good tune.

OH yes - hell of a song there.  Which is funny, considering how "against" Depeche Mode I was in high school - our group used to call them Douche Commode. :lol :lol :lol

Almost forgot - Failure did a BANG UP cover of it, too.

Rocky 4 is my favorite from the series.  Love the Rocky soundtrack, but not the material from part 5.  Too much rap shit.

Billy Joel - Pressure

Really good song, one of his better hits in the 80s, and a very cool video that was played to death by MTV in '82.  Like I have said before, Joel was one of the few 70s stars who managed to take advantage of the video age of the 80s without changing his sound or style much at all.  Very cool live song, too, especially the way the lights and lasers move to the main keyboard lead.

For months after this song came out, I would randomly just yell "PRESSURE!" during times of stress. Strange the things that stick to you about music.  :rollin

The song was catchy, but honestly, I thought it was rather annoying.  Billy's a great songwriter, but most of his later hits just don't work for me.  It might just be because they were so damned overplayed.  My wife has some of his albums from the 90's, and I like some of the album tracks.  They're good songs that I haven't heard a thousand times.

You sound like my mom.  She loves most of his hits, but doesn't like this one at all, mostly because of that keyboard lead.

Dokken - Heaven Sent

Another example of a song that if you just watched MTV, you would have thought it was a monster hit, as they played the shit out of this video, but if my memory serves me correctly, this song failed to make any dent on the pop chart.  I was a fan of the song, and while I don't really remember the video that much, I remember liking it, too.  Very cool mellow song, and one that managed to kick ass by being mellow yet not cheesy at all, not always easy for those 80s bands of similar ilk to pull off. :lol

I've said before that Dokken was a band which had far less ACTUAL success than their presence on MTV led you to believe, and here's another bit of proof of that theory.  :lol

Dokken was not a band I followed back in the day.  Tried a few albums after Coz gave me a song of theirs in my roulette.  Good stuff, but wasn't compelled to go whole hog into them like I have other bands of late.

I can't help but think of that song without thinking of the transition into Mr. Scary.  If you aren't familiar, do yourself a HUGE favor and click the link.  In fact, even if you ARE familiar, do yourself a HUGE favor and click the link.  Do it.

Heaven Sent is a good example of why I like George Lynch so much.  His guitar tone is just shit-your-pants scary.  I have to assume this is why he (and the above solo) are referred to as Mr. Scary.

Trying to figure out what a scary tone should sound like.

Early Dokken is amazing.  The band had such good chemistry back in the day and they wrote a lot of excellent songs.  Love those first few albums.

Night Ranger - Don't Tell Me You Love Me

I have zero recollection of the video, although it could be one of those that I see and think, "Oh yeah, I remember that," but for now it is drawing a blank.  And I am not seeing it on YT, so no luck there.  But that aside, good song, featuring a helluva solo by Brad Gillis.

Actually had remembered it as being standing in the middle of a road myself.  :lol

Night Ranger, like a lot of bands, really peaked with their very first single, since after the debut the band became something of a power ballad machine in later days. Don't Tell Me You Love Me is one of my favorite album openers ever, and it just KILLED live. Saw Night Ranger two times-once opening for Kansas at a club show, the other opening for Kiss on the Creatures of the Night tour-and they were awesome live. I tend to forget about the Kiss show for some reason. Maybe it was seeing Vinnie Vincent in make up?
