We all had those issues! :lol

My friend knew what a Rush nut I was.  There is a thousand pics of me with my cheesy sports jackets with the rolled up sleeves just like Alex Lifeson.  I look back now and laugh because it was "So Cool." :lol

Elton John - I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues

I've always liked this song a lot.  It has a beautiful melody, and it is just an easy song to listen to and enjoy.  And despite often not liking the harmonica, I like the harmonica solo in this song, played by Stevie Wonder.

I haven't heard this song in AGES, but as soon as you mentioned the harmonica solo, I heard the entire solo in my head. Note perfect.  :lol

While I've always been more of a fan of his stuff from the 70s, this song is just so good.

I have no recollection of the video whatsoever.  But great song.

I need to find a few pictures and post them.  I'd get a chuckle from DTF and their comments.

Oh god, don't remind me of those days. I used to own a pastel green jacket and white pants with little purple and blue stripes, and when I wore that outfit in the height of the Miami Vice craze, not only did no one laugh at me, people thought it looked good.  :rollin In fact, in many of the stories I have told in this thread, I was, in fact, wearing that very outfit.

I was never big in to 70s Elton John, but really liked some of his 80s stuff. This would be at the top of my list.

Merciful Zeus!

We're talking 1980-81 here.  Rap was known in some circles, all urban, and it didn't even have its own section in the record stores, at least not the ones I went to, being a non-black kid in the suburbs.  Blondie had a new song out, and it's cool, but then there's this wacky part where she, like, talks.

Later, we learned that this was called "Rap".  Ah... and the song is "Rapture".  It all made sense.

I'd ask if we were out of songs or something, but the last time I did something like that Kev hit us with Loverboy, and I really don't want to have a discussion over Lovin' Every Minute Of It.  :rollin

I wouldn't say we are out of songs, but it seems like most of the 80s biggies have been covered, unless you really want me to dive through the Billboard pop charts to see what numbers 1 we haven't discussed.  In other words, song that were big hits, but were never on my personal radar, so I never even considered getting mp3s of them.  Ya know, songs like:

Atlantic Starr - Always
Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton - Islands in the Stream
Stevie Wonder - Party-Time Lover

You see what I mean. :lol

And I will do my best to find some nuggets still not discussed, such as:

Mötley Crüe - Kickstart My Heart

An ass-kicking rocker.  I don't really remember the video, as I wasn't watching MTV as much by 1989, but I remember fans going nuts over this song.

Atlantic Starr - Always
Blech!  :tempus:

Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton - Islands in the Stream

This...actually wasn't bad.

Stevie Wonder - Part-Time Lover

Hey, don't diss Stevie.  Nuthin' wrong with this song.

I remember it.  The album dropped when I was stationed in Okinawa, and I remember people going nuts over it even over there.  And they had a literal video jukebox at the USO over there where I remember seeing this one and Tesla's Heaven's Trail played A LOT (although I think a lot of the plays Tesla got were probably mine).  I don't remember a whole lot about the video, other than a few shots of drag cars and skydiving, but I remember seeing it a lot.

Not a diss on Stevie - I actually like some of his 70s stuff quite a bit (He's Misstra Know It All is a beast of a song) - but Part-Time Lover is pure fluff, IMO.

Throw in some black and white footage of the band playing, and you're up to speed. :lol (no pun intended)
Great song, but I really like most of their hits/singles.

Mötley Crüe - Kickstart My Heart

An ass-kicking rocker.  I don't really remember the video, as I wasn't watching MTV as much by 1989, but I remember fans going nuts over this song.

My introduction to Motley Crue.  I remember the video vividly, which is somewhat of a miracle.  I had just also started discovering the joys of whacky tobacco, and BT's.  Both became my weekend rituals at various friends places (wherever parents were out).  There was a top 5 (rock/metal) video show that played at midnight on one of the stations.  This and Love Song are ingrained into my memory because of that show.  Throw in a little Slip of the Tongue, I Remember You, Little Fighter... those were the recurring videos I remember all to well.

As for Kickstart My Heart, don't forget the hawt blond backup singers, and Mick trying to pull a 'Frampton'.  Wasn't this song supposedly based on Nikki's real-life near-death (there's an oxy-moron) experience?
