...and the video

IHAR is ok but it relies too much on the chorus which makes it pretty repetitive. When it comes to SA, singles have never been among the best songs on their respective albums IMO (Don't Say a Word being the only exception that comes to mind) and that's probably the case with this song too. Maybe it's just the bad quality of the live video, but I didn't find Only the Broken Hearts that impressive either - I'm still looking forward to hearing the heavier and more complex pieces.

I finally got my For the Sake of Revenge live CD/DVD a week ago. To be honest, I'm not very impressed with the live audio quality for the CD.

After a few days of listening to I Have a Right once in a while I must say that it isn't really up to par with Sonata's other singles. Too repetitive is the first thing that comes to mind, I like the chorus but when the chorus takes over half of the song it's not as special.

I don't really dig the new single at all.  Not having high hopes for the album at all.  Will listen to the samples tonight.

That would fit right on my local modern rock station.  Didn't like that one bit.  That chorus is cringeworthy.

Somewhere Close to You, The Day, Cinderblox and the two Wildfires sounded the best from those samples.

On first listen, I have to say the album is pretty good. Not TDoG or Unia good, but I've only listened once.

And yes, see these guys live if you can. They put on a great show. Tony is full of energy

I've heard the album once and I think it's good - not sure if it's on par with Unia and TDOG but time will show. The hard rock songs are better than I expected and I Have a Right is easily one of the weakest songs on the album. I was most impressed by the Wildfire sequels, Somewhere Close to You and Alone in Heaven.

Just heard the new album for the first time and I was very impressed for the most part. I'm not sure yet if it will ultimately rank up there with Unia and The Days of Grays, two albums I absolutely love, but it still has so much to offer.  Whoever is selecting the singles for SA albums is doing a really lousy job--first "Flag in the Ground" made Sonata fans underwhelmed and nervous about The Days of Grays, but fortunately it was one of the weakest tracks on the album. The same thing has happened with "I Have a Right," one of the blandest tracks they've ever written. "Losing My Insanity," "Cinderblox," "The Day," or "Somewhere Close To You" would have been much better choices.

I bet the single choices are done depending on the song's catchiness and radio-friendliness - The Day is too proggy to be a single, SCTY is too heavy and Cinderblox might be a weird choice due to the banjo. But you're right - Paid in Full, Flag in the Ground and I Have a Right aren't very representive of their respective albums.

Anyway, I have listened to the album more and it's growing on me immensely - the songs are freaking catchy! :metal My only gripe is that I would've put Tonight I Dance Alone on the album instead of Don't Be Mean. My current ranking for the new songs ATM is this:

Wildfire 2 & 3
Somewhere Close to You
Alone in Heaven
Cinderblox
The Day
Shitload of Money
Only the Broken Hearts
Losing My Insanity
I Have a Right
Don't Be Mean

Has anyone else noticed that the thunder sample in the intro of Wildfire II is the same as the one used in A Nightmare to Remember by DT? I also noticed another subtle thing which, however, is pretty annoying: the piano in the second verse of Shitload of Money is out of sync. Can't be unheard... :(

Here is how I would rank the new songs:
1: Wildfire II
2. Somewhere Close to You
3. Wildfire III
4. The Day
5. Losing My Insanity
6. Alone in Heaven
7. Cinderblox
8. Shitload of Money
9. Only the Broken Hearts
10. I Have a Right
11. Don't Be Mean

I love love freakin LOVE tracks 1-7!!! :metal   But the other 4 have yet to grow on me and I don't think they ever will, which is why this album as a whole isn't as satisfying as Unia or Days of Grays.

This was far less easy than I thought:

1. Unia
2. Silence
3. Stones Grow Her Name
4. Days of Grays
5. Ecliptica
6. Winterheart's Guild
7. Reckoning Night

Yep, I don't like DOG as much as I used to. After listening to the new album I just realized that DOG is missing something... maybe it's energy, memorable melodies or something else. Anyway, SGHN has these elements that were missing on DOG. Obviously SGHN has the newness factor but right now I feel it's a pretty strong album (that might change, though). Ecliptica could be higher if I hadn't listened to it too much. Unia is my favorite because it feels just as fresh and interesting as it did 4½ years ago when I bought it as my first SA album.

(Sorry for double posting but this isn't related to the album ranking)

Does anybody else think To Create a Warlike Feel is one of the best SA songs? Unia is already a masterpiece in my eyes but it would be even better if TCAWF was on the album. I love the intro and the climax of the song (right before and/or including the solo) is awesome! :metal Having both Finnish and English lyrics at one part at the same time is also a unique idea IMO and Jarkko Martikainen's low voice creates nice contrast to Tony's singing. The Finnish lyrics are probably some of the most poetic stuff Tony has ever written and it'd be interesting to hear a full SA song completely in Finnish if the lyrics were as great as in TCAWF.

Yeah, I always felt like it should be on the album. They Follow is also easily the strongest slow song on the album and could have easily replaced Under Your Tree or Good Enough is Good Enough.

edit: In My Eyes You're A Giant and Nothing More are also really fucking good, majority of Sonata's bonus tracks should be on the normal albums.  :P

They Follow is beautiful indeed and easily better than GEIGE. Come to think of it, many Sonata B-sides are great tunes: Wrecking the Sphere, Respect the Wilderness, In My Eyes You're a Giant... The bonus tracks for SGHN aren't that great, though. Tonight I Dance Alone is ok and could've replaced Don't Be Mean and many people seem to like One-Two-Free-Fall but I don't see the appeal.

Yes, absolutely!
Here's an album rating from an SA fan of six years:
1. Unia
2. Reckoning Night
3. Winterheart's Guild
4. The Days Of Grays
5. Silence
6. Stones Grow Her Name
7. Ecliptica.

the first two and the last two spots pretty interchargeable.

Shitload of Money video

I would've preferred some storyline based on the lyrics but IMO this video isn't nearly as bad as a lot of people say it is. The only thing that actually bothers me is the editing of the song, it's not smooth enough and sounds like it was done very quickly - hopefully Alone in Heaven won't be ruined in the same way when the video for that song comes out.
