Don't know which part makes me want to vomit more: the status or the comment.

It's a little known fact that in the original Greek, the phrase "offer the other cheek also" actually meant "punch in them in the face."  :lol

I'm registering for the "both" option as well.

Silly humans, when will we learn the only way is C'thulhu?

There is no C'thulhu, only Zuul.

I have to admit, my first thought of comment was going to be "Silly humans, when will they learn there is no god, only Zuul" and then I thought I'd go for something a little more squiddy.

Not so much a pathetic facebook status, it's more of a escalated facebook thing. There was a girl in Haren here in Holland who invited all her facebook friends to her sweet sixteen party. Unfortunately, the FB event status was "public". Friends invited friends and it became a hype, resulting in a facebook event with 15000+ people who said they were going. I believe that's even more than the number of inhabitants of Haren. Anyway, the whole things happening tonight. So far: small scale riots, an Albert Heijn (big Dutch supermarket) got thrashed, riot control police all over the place, and rumors of one death already, ambulances being assaulted and ambulance helicopters. Holy f**k, I hate my country.
EDIT: according to Dutch news websites, there were over 36000 people "attending" the event on FB, not 15000. This is sick.

Whoa, I guess I should've read that more carefully.  I was just thinking it was funny that a screwup involving stupid girl's birthday party resulted in half the country showing up and mass chaos.  Death and destruction isn't cool.

Well, after all there wasn't death, but there were about 30 wounded (wounded enough to need to go to the hospital). Cars were set on fire or turned over, and many of windows of stores, buses and houses were broken. Luckily, there were a few people who decided to clean the whole town up. A FB page was made "Clean Haren" and they've cleaned all day. The police requested for all the pictures and videos from people there to be able to quickly prosecute those responsible. It was a complete mess. According to the police, there were 500 police officers, including at least 120 riot control police guys.

I guess the lesson here is to not put events on FB.  That's really fucked up that all that happened. :tdwn

Or you make events open only to those that are invited or make it "Friends-only." It's really not difficult at all.

Yeah, the problem wasn't the event itself, or Facebook.  It was the people who set it up and didn't restrict it properly.

Or you could like, I don't know, delete the event as soon as you noticed there were a few hundred people going...

While not a bad suggestion in principle, I somehow think that it would have had a limited effect.  The masses of people who would show up for the birthday party of some 16-year-old girl that they don't even know, just because of a Facebook invitation, are probably the types who are just looking for a party.  Their justification is that they were invited via Facebook.  The fact that it was obviously a mistake apparently meant nothing to them.  "Hey, I was invited; I'm going!"

It was deleted I believe, but some stubborn people had remembered the adress and just made a new event.

That would seem to support my theory.  They were just looking for an excuse to go there and raise hell, and in the absence of a legitimate excuse, they created one.

That's messed up they did that, but the funny part is she was unaware of the internets potential to destroy things.

Someone posted this pic with the caption

"Meet Kabang the dog, he lost his snout while saving the lives of two girls in the Philippines. He's been brought to the University of California, Davis, where vets are working together to repair his injuries. They're confident they can reconstruct his snout.

Kabang gave up everything without question to protect the lives of the humans he loved and we LIKE that a lot."

This was the first comment.

"Dats nt tru cuz she couldn't pick up da food wit no snout nt even wit da side of her jaw she couldn't cuz she would need her snout to close and hold wateva b4 she chews........and bein dat its in the Philippines I kno they dnt have the money to pay for sumkinda surgery so she cn eat a differ way......and if u google nething sutn cums up in the images so dat dnt make it tru.......bt nice story bt no way dats tru......And a dog need their snout to drink as well. Look it up.. so wit out it she would b dead.. dis is a photo trick jus lyk all the images on google......"

122 words... 34 of which got abbreviated  :lol I can't be all mad though. At least they used the proper form of "their". I can't help but think it takes longer to type that way than if you just spelled things correctly.
