When was the last time you were as excited/anxious for an album as you are for this upcoming album?

I was very excited for Symphony X's and Iron Maiden's last albums, but I'm more excited for DT's than I was for them. So I guess the last time I was at this level of excitement was for Metallica's Death Magnetic, which was 2008. I went through kind of a rough patch during BC&SL's release, so I wasn't overly excited for that one.

The last time... probably when Yes announced Fly From Here. Before that... definitely when Alice In Chains announced Black Gives Way To Blue.

Probably Be Here Now by oasis. Too bad it wasn't anywhere near as good as Morning Glory.

That or Infernal Love by Therapy? which wasn't anywhere near as good as Troublegum.

Or American Idiot by Green Day, which I enjoyed immensely.

As far as albums go, probably Neal Morse's Testimony 2 this past May. Before that, I'm not sure. Maybe BC&SL to be honest.

I've never been so excited for an album before, but that might have something to do with my a) having quite a lot of free time over the past semester, while I am usually flooded with stuff to do and b) my staying connected and checking out new snippets, interviews, participating in DTF, which I had never really done much before.

BTBAM's The Parallax. Before that dates all the way back to like, Death Magnetic or Dethalbum II. Because I wasn't into DT yet when BCSL came out.

Never. Maybe Weird Al's alpocalypse, but not really considering he started streaming it, like, 3 days after it really sunk in for me and I had already heard, like, half of it from his "Internet Leaks" EP.

But seriously, I found DT after Black Clouds and Silver Linings, and I've grown to appreciate their music so much more than I thought one could appreciate music, and I've gotten massive amounts of respect and inspiration (I write music) from their music. And since this has all happened between Black Clouds and now, I'm pretty dang excited. Super-excited, even.

David Gilmour's Live in Gdansk....
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I was really excited for BCSL since it was the first new DT album since I became a fan. But the excitement for ADTOE is previously unheard of for me.

I think this is my most anticipated release ever. Definitely for DT at least.

That is because

1. DT's release are like no other, to me. I was excited for new Neal Morse (Lifeline and T2) and they both delivered, but I wasn't like I GOTTA HAVE THOSE ALBUMS. Same with Thrice's new album coming out. Do want, but can wait. A DT release is special, and even a cursory glimpse over at 5/8 testifies to how, at least different it can be to wait for a DT release.

2. This is the album where MP is gone. To be honest, I am glad for what it spawned: the addition of Mangini and a steering toward different songwriting (or getting back to their roots). I am basing this on OTBOA and the snippets.

3. On the Backs of Angels is superb. I love that song to pieces, and unlike most things off of the last 2 albums, this song is sticking with me a LOT more and feels like an actual good song (whereas other songs lost their initial charm quickly, OTBOA is STILL fresh to me...good sign). If OTBOA is an indicator of the goodness of ADTOE, then, to me, this will at least be a top 5 album to me in the long haul.

I am super excited. Not keeping hopes up, but those facts have me wanting it now
