I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm not that huge on the the new album. I could listen to NWFT and YOTBR all day long, but this new one isn't really clicking with me that much, at least not as much as the other albums.

This is much better than those 2 albums you mentioned.

After another listen, I am liking the new album a lot more. I wasn't paying enough attention on the first listen.

I know! Everytime I finish I feel like "damnit give me more!!" Then I remember that this is a double album.

Just dropping in to say once again how much I love Goodnight, Fair Lady. I am listening to this song straight into the ground.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

I freaking love Subtraction.  The lyrics in particular are grabbing me.  "I confess to every song that brought you back" is one of my favorite Coheed lines ever now.

As an aside from how generally good this album is, can we take a moment to agree and appreciate how much better this album sounds than Year? Even the MP3s just blow the shittastic engineering of Year out of the water.

Yeah, YOTBR's production did not suit Coheed at all.  Props for trying something different, but I don't think Atticus Ross or Joe Barresi were suited for music like Coheed's.  They're more about dense, claustrophobic atmosphere, I think, which is why they work so well with NIN/Trent Reznor and Tool.  Coheed's albums usually sound more open, if that makes sense, especially on the Good Apollo albums, as well as Afterman.  I do like the rawness of SSTB though, and would be fine with a return to that sound as well.

I LOVE this album's packaging. Absolutely awesome, the album art is definitely one of the best I own.

First listen today. Sounded good, but wasn't blown away. Hopefully it'll get better after listening more.

This, BTBAM, and Anathema will round out my top 3 of the year. Such an amazing listen.

I love Subtraction; it's so much different than any other Coheed song, yet it totally fits.

Went to a local chillaxin hangout, they have an online jukebox, and played Vic the Butcher. They had the entire album, but I didn't have nine bucks to spend. It was nice seeing the album up for play in a local pool hall/ bar

Sup dudes, rolling in late to the party like I always do but uh, hey!  This uh, this new Coheed album is pretty fuckin good, eh?  When I got the album it was the first time I'd heard the non-single edit version of Domino.  HOLY FUCK!  :metal  :metal

Not a weak song in the bunch.  If Descension keeps up this level of quality and we consider the two parts as one album then we may be looking at a new contender for best Coheed album ever.

Watch the video, pretty awesome!

Not really surprise that the real life inspiration for Domino the Destitute was Mic Todd but fairly surprise Mothers of Men almost didn't make the album!

Picked this up along with the new BTBAM and I'm really liking it so far. Agree with the sentiment that it's better than the last two albums, but behind the second and third. Which given how good they are isn't a bad thing.

I listened to a few random tracks with a friend the other day and wasn't really into it.

I listened start to finish yesterday and thought to myself, "This is pretty damn good!"

I listened start to finish today and thought to myself, "This album is fucking epic!"

I was only half surprised that their post YOTBR work would be better.  Claudio is a genius, and his vision for what he want's the story to sound like is uncompromised.  He cuts no corners in creating these musical masterpieces.  I'm a huge Alter Bridge fanatic, my absolute favorite band.  If those guys stopped spreading themselves thin and put the same uncompromised effort into their music as C&C, they could make the greatest music on the planet.  But, as it stands, Descension will be out before the next Alter Bridge album, and if it's anywhere near as good as Ascension, I'll have a new favorite band.

Definitely enjoying it more and the second and third listens. Not as good as their best couple albums, but surpasses the last two for sure.
