Some of the things Mike has said or done in the last year have been poor decisions, IMO.  But I'm not seeing the problem with him re-tweeting this.  What's the issue?

So you don't think that by Trunk saying the new single sounds "....like DT" isn't a slight at the band?

I'm not sure I see how saying that DT sounds like DT is a slight at DT, no.
Sincerely,
Jaffa

Why should Portnoy re-tweet something that makes reference to DT? It's not like Trunk addressed Adrenaline Mob or something.

One thing though, is that DT fans are friggin' intense and non-comprehensive. I mean, how many negative comments can someone get to the point of making them erase their own tweets.  :lol

I think the slight was more against MM anyway.

I took that to mean that is sounds like DT... you know, that even with the drummer change it still sounded like a DT song, I took that as the compliment portion of the tweet.

Not with the way it was formatted. We're getting into hairy territory here, but in my opinion when you type "Just heard the new DT song and it sounds.......like DT" you're not excited, you're not impressed. By saying "but there's only one MP", even while saying "Mangini is a beast", is a slight in my opinion. He could have chosen a thousand different ways to express what it sounded like. I don't think as a member of a band I'd want someone to tell me my new song that I worked on sounds like what I always do.

and to follow up on this, look at his twitter page. seems like he's excited about all the other bands he's playing.

nice attempt but if you wanted to refer to a jew that way it'd be semite. When you say "Semitic" it's more referring to the group of languages.  :)

"Playing the new DT now for the first time on air, which sounds exactly like... DT."

Translation: DT's new song is the same old shit.

Mangini is a monster but there is only one MP of course."

Translation: Mangini is good, but not as good as Portnoy.

Ooooh, okay.  Thank you.  Maybe it's just because I'm not familiar with Trunk, but I interpreted things completely differently.

Translation: DT's new song is as good as ever.

Translation: Mangini is great (don't worry, MP, you're still awesome too).

Just the way I saw it.  The other side now makes sense to me, too.

this is how i interpret it, and i would like to think MP as well. but maybe he saw that it could be seen both ways and 'de-tweeted' it

Possibly. I take it as Trunk hinting that the band isn't treading any new ground and can finally say that because his pal Portnoy isn't in the picture. The last two albums weren't new ground either but he seemed to love the singles from those, probably not to offend Portnoy who was debuting them.

Or he could be defending Portnoy in Jericho fashion by saying the band is trying to survive by imitating what worked when he was in the band.

Agreed. The intention of the tweet isn't nearly as important as what people perceive the intention might have been.

:D

Or he'd decide to just drop it and pretend it never happened out of fear that whatever he said next would also be interpreted as a negative.

Maybe I'm completely off base and the Tweet WAS negative, I don't know.  But as an honest observation, it does seem to me that no matter what MP says, someone, somewhere faults him for it.

That's intentional.  If no one takes me seriously, I can't piss anyone off.  =D  (Totally making that up right now, by the way)

I highly doubt that. If it's positive you leave it up regardless because if people take it the wrong way it's their problem. Or if people take it the wrong way you either explain it or reword it in a new tweet.

Well the songs been out for a few days and while people were kinda waiting for Portnoy's response, any response, there didn't seem to be any. Finally we get something but it was only because he had the backing of a good friend in that "See? Told you I was right."manner.

And you're 100% sure you're interpreting that tone correctly?  There's absolutely no chance whatsoever that you have preconceived notions which might be tainting what he says?

Because that's really all my point is, is that it seems to me people are overanalyzing MP to reach whatever conclusions they want.

Not to mention his post about The Adrenaline Mob, "I can't wait for you all to hear OUR songs!!" The way he stressed the "Our" clearly means, "As opposed to their."

Or they might be reading interviews and tweets from the past few years and fitting him with a profile they've seen in real life from experience of just being alive for a few decades.

Remember that all those listens are not first time listens, but many have listened to it over and over and over and over again.

Still very impressive though!

Okay, but look at it this way. That's how many times the song was listened to. Now, if only 100,000 people listened to it, then that's still a lot, 5 times each. In 3 days. And then there's people like me, where I ripped it and am enjoying it on my MP3 player, so I don't bother going to the Youtube page, unless I'm trying to grab the link and give it to my friends.

Still, 3 days. And it's not even a music video, just a song.

Hi guys!
This is my first poste in this fantastic forum!

I noticed that there isn't a PRESENTATION thread, so I introduce myself here!.
I'm Matt, 24, and I'm Italian.

I just want to say that this son is absolutely amazing.
I needed to listen to it many times, but I suddenly fell in love with it.
It's so epic, great rhythms, great sounds.
and Mangini..ooooooooh...mangini is just fantastic.

I hope to enjoy my time here with you all!
