I hear why people here are saying that JR is the highlight of this song and I guess the reason is that he restrained himself, and because of that he shone.
Intro: "Oh, dear God. I hear a continuum... we had that in Octavarium. Please no. Oh, we actually didn't.
After the first verse: the patches are not over used and he fits really well. (Maybe due to this low quality mix) it seems there's a lot of silent notes which benefit the song.
The Chorus: his dramatic and a little bit of gothic chorus sound benefit the song.
Piano break: A very restrained and very tasteful segment. Not overdone but succinct.
Outro: great patch that bodes a well farewell.
This song wasn't intended to be a highlight for the keyboards and JP, as a producer, used the best of JR to benefit the song where it was needed. A wise choice of his talent. The mentality of On the Backs of Angels was give equilibrium to each instrument; not the idea of OMG EVERYBODY PLEASE SHINE IN A WANKY WAY AND YOU'LL ALSO BE HIGH ON THE MIX!
