to me it sounds like he will be joining AX7... they will do a deal and an album w Mike.. then back to DT

He specifically said he's not joining a7x but that he'll finish out the tour with them and then decide what to do next when the time comes that he has to figure that out.

he said  "at this time" he is not a member...it sounded like this is being discussed reading between the lines..since he wanted that 2 year window to sign a deal..

I am now convinced this departure will last one album, and one tour.

I'm not convinced but I think the chances are good that this is what will happen.

my gut reaction - nobody wanted this but everyone made what felt like the adult decision at the time, and when it all comes together in the future - my guess would be 3 to 5 years from now, tops - they'll be back together, and they'll all be fresher and better and will put out their first number one debuting album upon reuniting. :metal:

Who knows what attitudes will change in the next year or two. I do hope that who ever takes the "throne" does it with an open mind of Big peddles to fill for a short while.

I'm looking forward to the new DT album and following world tour without MP. I can't wait to see what is written on that record.

On the other hand, I can't wait for MP to return.

What he has done for sure is given this forum a ridiculous amount of stuff to speculate on, discuss, and over-analyze in the next few years.

Could it be that he doesn't even know what he's doing yet? There's no need to jump to conclusions.

His return will certainly be a great thing, but the members need to make that clear to the new drummer before he joins that at any time he might get the boot. Or they could get a new drummer and keep MP out forever, starting a dramatic fued that will result in epic musical battles with DT and MP's new solo project.
I agree with this. I don't think it'd be fair to get a co-collaborator and then kick him out.

Although, John isn't thinking "temporary" or "interim," according to his posts. So I'd say the latter's more likely, although you've phrased it a bit more dramatically.

Chances are, it'll lie somewhere in between.
The fans will get what they want. If they want Mike and Mike wants in, Mike will be back. Its hard to think otherwise.

I have to say, the indefinite hiatus thing, I can totally understand how the guys rejected that. Who knows when MP would feel interested again? There's a thing called momentum, and waiting too long can kill momentum.

This probably isn't fair so I won't start a new thread, but would you rather have had them take a year or two off and keep MP or go the route they've taken?

to me if hes not full time in AX7, he will be back sooner..I cant see Mike just meandering around..

AX7 KNOWS they need him ..and Im sure Mike is now grooving in the band and enjoying it... AX7 asked for that window of time to do an album, tour.. etc..
obviously Mike is not enjoying DT as much as AX7, he hinted the newness was a really exciting to him.

Have a nice night everyone!

NEVER FORGET 9/11..

Yeah, I don't really care who the next drummer is or how good the next album may or may not be, if Mike wants back in then I want him back in.

I think it would make people angrier if he joined AX7 full time though. It would be viewed as a waste of his talent. He can do side projects and tour . write with people temporarily for a while, but jumping from one established band to another is different.

I don't know, while there might not be any resentment now, this whole "well, I will have gotten my break, and then I just return to DT" might not fly too well with the guys after some time.

I also had a bit the impression hat he overestimated his bargaining chip in this whole operation. It seemed he was expecting the guys to say "well, we could NEVER go on without you given all you do for us, so I guess we can't do anything but go on this break". You could hear the stunnedness in his voice explaining that the guys decided "well, then we have to part".
I would not be surprised if the guys didn't feel at least somewhat blackmailed, and at least somewhat out of that feeling said "no, actually we CAN go on without you". That would explain the excitement also one hears in the guys' explanations of DT's future.

He also made some odd connections. Comparing the situation to bands like Maiden, Priest and stuff. Those bands kind of failed when the singers left and were VERY happy to get them back to regain success. If the new DT is still succesful, will they really rush to take him back?

I agree with this, a bit.

25 years does count for a hell of a lot, and they've built up a lot of brand loyalty to MP, of course they have. But at the same time, I don't like the idea that the band would rebuild their infrastructure and hire a new member and ingratiate him (or her!) into the band and get them to learn all their songs, new and old, just to drop him when MP decides he's found that spark again / misses the band / whatever. Like John says, they're not thinking temporary. They can't work under the assumption that MP will be coming back.

I don't find that very fair. Then again, happened with Derek, kinda. Plus I'm maybe looking forward to the change a bit much - clouding my judgment. Love changes, me.

I understand that since it is 9/11 (at least for us east coasters) why he chose this song...but ugh...not exactly the song I want representing DT (SS is my least favorite DT song).

As for the interview...Mike didn't resort to mudslinging, although I think its clear his ego is getting quite large.  He constantly feels the need to remind everyone of all the things he did for the band besides playing, but I can't help but think that it was largely his choice, and there was another reference to himself in the third person.

I understand better where Mike is coming from.  In my work as a chemist, new ideas tend to excite me and I do several things in chemistry that are different and unrelated to my original project, so I can understand how if I want to take a hiatus from a project I've worked on for 7 years, that after 25 years Mike would want to set DT aside for a while.

I also understand the rest of the band not wanting to be left to the whim of one member, and wanting to continue.
