These tracks sound interesting, I'm glad it's some melodic stuff. The vocals are slightly more aggressive, but I think I'll be able to enjoy this.

Yeah, Static Impulse and songs like One More Time and Mislead are light death metal.  Keep checking these songs out, they will grow on you.

Glad you liked it, Soilwork is an amazing band, and their last album (The Panic Broadcast) is a pretty good return to form after what was Sworn to A New Divide, which is for me their weakest album. Other bunch of songs you may like:  "The Bringer", "Departure Plan", and from their new album "Night Comes Clean".

The Bringer  :metal

I liked Sworn to A Great Divide.  It's pretty average compared to their older works but still enjoyable.  Panic Broadcast was extremelly enjoyable, but still not up to the level of NBC, FNF or APP.  Other songs;

Follow the Hollow  :metal
The Akuma Afterglow
Bastard Chain
Chainheart Machine
Millionflame
Overload
Natural Born Chaos
Distance
Spirits of the Future Sun
Needlefeast

man, such a strong band.

According to Blabbermouth James is to guest on the new Eden's Curse album, singing backgrounds on all songs and a duet on one. The last album had Pamela (Sister Mary) Moore doing the same thing.
eden's Curse are ok, nothing new but ok.

Shit, this is awesome, I'm a huge Eden's Curse fan.  Second Coming was an amazing album.  Tony Harnell did all the backing vocals on that one and it was amazing, James on this is gonna kill.

Yeah, it depends what you're looking for. I find it hard to compare them because they're so different, really.

Just picked up this album a few days ago, I'm now obsessed with it.  Brilliant stuff, I couldn't be more impressed with James right now...WHY doesn't this man have any musical input on DT is truly beyond me (aside from the fact that was the stipulation two decades ago when he joined).

For me, obvious standouts are:

I Need You
Euphoric
Coming Home
One Last Time

Looking at other lists though, seems that not many agree with me.  Guess that shows how awesome this album is...

I think the ballads on both are very weak but everyone seems to love Euphoric...the drums in it are a real turn off for me though.

Really?  I freaking love the drums, especially the verses.  Listening to it right now, actually.

I only really check in on one reviews site, and it's Metal Reviews. They've finally posted a Static Impulse review.
https://v2.metalreviews.com/

They're apparently unaware of exactly who's doing the harsh vocals.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Thread revival for two reasons.

1) Static Impulse is an amazing album and still receives heavy rotation in my music listening.

2) "Euphoria" has vocal phrases that sound almost identical to Linkin Park's "Runaway".
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. I turned my friend onto Static impulse, and he's enjoying every minute of it. He likes some Dream Theater stuff, not really a fan, but Static impulse is pretty much an ideal album for him. He likes to crank it up in his car whenever we're going somewhere, and it's still awesome.  :metal

The album has grown on me. I still think of the EoP as a better album, but this album is killer. I've embraced Wildoer's growls a lot more than in the past ;)

So, how is Keep it to Yourself? I think Mullmuzzler 2 is really good (and way overlooked), but I never got the first one, probably because of the freakish cover and I believe there's a song about Bill Clinton of all things.

I think that the first two albums are geniunely terrible.  Some people like them, though.

I take it I'm the biggest fan of Mullmuzzler 2 in the world for some reason. Venice Burning, Confronting the Devil, Stranger...very cool stuff.

I rank the JLB albums thusly:

Elements of Persuasion
Static Impulse
Mullmuzzler 2
Keep it to Yourself.

That being said, I think there are great songs on all of them, with the overall quality being inversely proportional to the number of Trent Gardner songs on the album.  "Shores of Avalon" is stylistically something of a precursor to Venice Burning / Confronting the Devil.

Both Mullmuzzler albums are really good, with moments of brilliance and moments of not.

The number of songs I liked from the albums increased with each release. Of KITY (Seriously? KITY?) I liked His Voice, Slow Burn and Shores of Avalon. Of MM2 there were more songs I liked: Confronting the Devil, A Simple Man, Venice Burning, Stranger. Elements of Persuasion was a lot more different but I liked a lot more songs.

So in conclusion yeah. The Mullmuzzler album have some good gems inside them but also have a lot of forgettable material IMO.

From Matt Guillory via facebook:
"The new LaBrie record is moving along really well so far. James just wrote me from Japan and he is blown away by how everything is sounding. I feel so blessed to be working not only with amazing musicans, but also people that inspire me. Can't wait for everybody to hear this stuff."

I am the only person that doesn't like MullMuzzler 2 as much as the other stuff James has done?

Sounds good that there is a new album on the way.
