What a great season by the Timberwolves. Really proud of the team. Congrats to the Mavs. The best player (right now) on the floor led his team to a big win. That's nothing to scoff at. But the Wolves are here to stay and built to last. They will get theirs and be in title contention, health permitting, for the next several years. Very pleased at how they've progressed. A few holes to address (younger PG who can step in for Conley and a bonafide third offensive option), but I'm really happy with them. I'm an original fan since the expansion year, and I still maintain this is the best team the Timberwolves ever had - and best season.
Mavs really got led by Luka, as they should be. What a great talent. Probably the best single player in the league, or at least top-3. Amazing what he can do. I'd be a fan, except for his whining. He whines more than LeBron, and that's saying something. Every call on him or his team is wrong. He's ridiculous. I'm sure he'll get his title at some point, and as long as he takes better care of his body, he will be one of the greatest to play in the NBA. But man, unless you're a fan of the Mavs, it's hard to root for him with all his whining. Kyrie is a dumbass, but at least he just puts his head down and plays hard. I respect him as a competitor way more than Luka because of that.
Regardless, they handed my team their ass, and all props to the Mavs. Glad Lively is okay. Kid has a lot of energy and skill, and I really enjoyed watching him play, even if it was against my team.
I typically have a rule that I won't root for Boston sports teams (I AM a native NYer and a big time Yankees and Jets fan after all), but I'm rooting hard for the Celtics in the finals.
As for the Wolves, a lot of questions remain about their ownership and basketball ops. I read today that Glen Taylor is going to meet with Tim Connelly about his contract situation, so hopefully, now that Detroit has filled its hole, its just a raise and extension for Tim, and life goes on. As for ownership, I just want the arbitration to be over. I have a bad feeling about A-Roid and Lore. I feel like they aren't genuine about keeping the team in Minnesota. But I also feel like Taylor backed out in bad faith because the Wolves are worth a lot more now than they were. So it'll be interesting.
A final note about the Wolves -- I lost a LOT of respect for Kevin Garnett. I loved him as a player. But he kept talking about showing up to support the team, and he never did. His beef with Taylor is now absolutely ridiculous, and I feel, as a fan, he let all of us down, and the current team down. I am sure he'll go to Boston. But the fact he didn't show up in Minnesota was bad. I will always appreciate his playing career, but what a fucking douchebag regarding him not showing up to Target Center. It really would have rallied some of the guys he mentors from afar, and it would have rallied the entire building. Shame on him.
Good luck to the Celtics and their fans, and the Mavs and their fans. Hope it's a great series.
Looking forward to the offseason.
