I love doing that with a stout and vanilla ice cream.

I'm trying to grab a porter or stout each time I get a mix a six, just to expand my horizons some.

The supermarket doesn't have a TON of options as far as that goes.  They have a whole row devoted to wine coolers, a few rows devoted to the standards, then a lot of standard craft brew selections from ABC, Troeg's, Sierra Nevada, etc.  I'll try to get a look at the options next time and let you know.

Last night I made myself a whiskey sour.  Turned out I had way too much sour.

I compensated by adding more whiskey.

Bought a new bottle of whiskey a couple of days back. Balblair '05. I love the fact that they don't say how old the whiskey is. Every year the master distiller tastes the barrels, and when they are good, they sell them. No use in letting them rest another couple of year when the taste is perfect. I like that, sometimes age only adds complexity, even when you want a clear, open taste.
Anyway: apart from the way it looks

(This is the '03, but you get the idea of the packaging)

The taste is awesome too. Very fresh, a real highland whiskey, in terms of taste.

God the scotch was good:

Scapa 10 year old... nice a light way to start the evening.  Fairly generous pour... neat.
Springbank 15 yr... never had this one.  From the Campbeltown region?  Again, not familiar with it.  A bit more 'dark' (flavour) and "earthen rootiness".
Talisker: Distillers Edition ... nice and smokey.

Oh, and a customer visit at 4pm started the evening with Macallan Rare Cask.  Not bad for a 1st meeting with this customer.  And by 'not bad', I mean holy-fucking-shit-I-can't-believe-he-poured-me-a-glass-of-this!!!
