Great day at work, was able to make some side cash while on the clock, got my 2 year anniversary notice (which means 2 more vacation days and a public shout out from my boss's boss) and also got a nice shoutout in an email to the CFO/COO as well as other high ups for successfully completing my project and saving our company about 500k a year.  :tup :tup

So, I am in with my typical grey goose.  :hat :metal

Oh, and millahh, before you bust my chops of having Islay Scotch, it's just for when my buddy comes over to the house. He likes that shit.

So what you're saying is that when your friend comes over, you'll put it in you, but you won't enjoy it?  :loser: :tup

In, two glasses of merlot w/ dinner, and some Buffalo Trace on the rocks while getting caught up on email.

I am now very eagerly looking to try Aultmore as soon as I can. Reading up on the history and distillation practices makes it sound, in the technical jargon of the Scotch whisky aficionado, fucking delicious.

No, I said nothing of the kind. When he comes over, he drinks it. I'll have a nice Highland Scotch. Thank you.

It's been a rough week.

So I'm having a beer my brother and I brewed last year. It's our Barleywine called Memory Eraser. Perfect for this week.

King, here's the beer list at the pizza place up the street from the house.  I tried to talk everyone into going there tonight, but I think it ain't happenin.  Lots to do to prep for jr's birthday party tomorrow.

https://alsofhampden.com/beer.php

Pizza Boy is the in-house brand they brew at the pizzeria.  Appalachian, Troeg's, Lancaster, and Hershey are, of course, all local breweries in the capitol region.  As any really good beer place would, each beer is served in exactly the correct type of glass for the kind of beer.  Damn cool.

And the pizza and subs are f*ckin' bangin' also.

:o You live by Pizza Boy? I'm jealous. I've heard amazing things about their Sunny Side Up coffee stout. Anything hoppy from Tired Hands (small place outside of Philly) is worth a try. Normally I'd also mention those two Founders stouts on nitro (I  :heart stouts on nitro), but I know dark beers aren't normally your thing.

Pizza Boy/Al's of Hampden is about a mile and a half from my house.  They make some REALLY good stuff.  They once made a cream ale out of a bazillion boxes of Boo Berry cereal.  The beer was green.  It was interesting, to say the least.

I generally don't like coffee-flavored things.  Except coffee.  Just gimme a cup of coffee.  :lol

Now I will say, I've tried a few stouts and porters recently and am starting to just gently dip my toe in the waters of dark beer.  They come off really heavy to me and I really don't have a good feel yet for what they pair well with, food wise.  I wouldn't feel like I'd want that with pepperoni pizza, but I really have no idea.  We don't get down there very often, despite how close it is.  I need to rectify that.

I like it with a smoked meat or a desert myself but I drink a ton of dark beers.

Dessert is definitely the big one for stouts. Or, instead of pairing it with a dessert you have, just get yourself a nice stout and just drop a scoop of vanilla ice cream in it.

Hmph.  That DOES sound good.  I routinely like to pick up mix-a-sixes from the grocery store and I'll be there tonight, so it would be easy to find some to try.  I'll be grabbing some specifics tonight, if possible, to round out some of my Untappd badges first, though.

Also, I am bummed to find that Rohrbach brewery in Rochester is not, at this time, able to ship to my local beer warehouse.  They're only doing regional distribution.  And there's not really a chance in hell I'm going anywhere near Rochester anytime soon.   :'(

I'm probably going out to dinner tonight, so I'm sure I'll imbibe something, just not sure what yet.

I don't tend to pair big stouts much with food, but a porter (Founders and Bell's both make great examples that should be readily available) is a great beer to have if you're grilling.

Duly noted, I'll keep an eye out. I think I do seem to like porters better than stouts.

Never had the 12, though maybe in a couple of weeks.  Didn't care for it at first (seemed a little bracing and one dimensional), but it's grown on me.  I'm still kind of a scotch amateur, though.
