25. Illumination Theory (91st) DREAM THEATER, IF YOU'RE READING THIS, DO MORE STUFF IN THE VEIN OF THE LAST FEW MINUTES OF THIS SONG. SO GOOD.
24. Beyond This Life (88th) I'm a SFAM hater, what can I say? It's an okay song though.
23. Bridges In The Sky (8th) This song could be top 5 but the intro is too long, it's otherwise a stellar song. When JLB sings "crossing bridges in the sky", it's so good.
22. In The Presence Of Enemies (28th) Cool epic on a weird album. I don't like the Dark Master part. Everything else is good. Odd song for DT, though.
21. Blind Faith (42nd) Easily the worst track of SDOIT but still just fine.
20. Surrounded (25th) What a lovely song. Just, so bouncy but then a bit serious. DT does this style of song nicely.
19. Finally Free (76th) SFAM, yeah....
18. Strange Deja Vu (89th) Lol. The "uncanny strange deja vu" does pop into my mind at times.
17. Take The Time (19th) The energy in this song is really vibrant. JLB is having fun and the music is good.
16. Under A Glass Moon (67th) It's a fine song, with a cool intro. It's always been the weakest or second weakest track on IaW to me, though.
15. The Glass Prison (3rd) This is 15th and I am shocked. I know some of the songs remaining, but I thought this was one of the most favored songs. Interesting. Anyway, this song is just pure gas for a long time.
14. Pull Me Under (77th) This and UAGM are fine songs, but they can swap being the worst or 2nd worst on the album, but they have stiff competition. Also surprised this is so high, is it because it's their most famous song?
13. Fatal Tragedy (90th) What a canyon between my ranking and the consensus. Yeah, it's a SFAM song, for some reason that album doesn't gel with me.
12. Scarred (69th) It's a fine song, but I often forget how it even sounds when I see it talked about.
11. In The Name Of God (13th) Hell yeah. I avoided this song for a while when this album was the new stuff, IDK why, I just was loving the rest of the album and this was the last song. It is pretty much flawless. I love the choir at the end, subtle enough to enjoy (and JLB's screaming as well).

DT used to have some really great moody, atmospheric intros like on Scarred, Pull Me Under, or Trial of Tears (or The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun even). I feel like they haven't really done that on the same level since FII.

Fatal Tragedy placed 25 for me. A wonderful song, beautiful begining and nice buildup to a cool istrumental section.
Scarred took the 24th spot. Love the beginning with the bass and then it gets going.... What if the rest of the world.... so good.
In the Name of God was not ranked. This might have been a victim of me not listening while ranking. But listening to it now I can't see it higher than 70 or so.

Fatal tragedy was my #11. I almost nailed it. It's a great piece of a concept album that sort of works on its own. I love LaBrie's vocals when he gets to the part "I tried to get more answers..." Also, that unison at the end is classic.

Scarred was my #5. I know it's divisive, but to me, it's dark, surreal and powerful. Such a unique epic in their discography. Also, quite a difficult song to get into.

In the name of God was my #72. I don't necessarily love it. That chorus is overly dramatic, and the entire outro is a bit much. It's brilliant in the middle, though, the instrumental section is particularly amazing.

This never ceases to not blow me away. That instrumental section is amazing.

I had Scarred at #3.
Top 3 DT song here. It took me a couple of listens to follow it, but it's been a favorite ever since. Such a great and moving outro.


I had In The Name Of God at #50.
It made my Top 50! I missed the ToT tour, so seeing it in 2009 was a highlight for me.

I've got six songs in the top 10. And the four that didn't make it, are in the top 20 anyway, with the exception of my #4, The Mirror.

In the span of four placements - actually five - , from 36 to 40 (with an intruder), we can find both my highest ranking non-qualified songs (36 and 40) and my lowest ranking songs that will be in the top 10 (with one possibly top 5), 37 and 39.

13. Fatal Tragedy (22nd) The highest-ranking SFAM track in my list! Fantastic. The pinnacle of the album, to me.

12. Scarred (78th) For as much as I love Awake, this isn't one of my favorites, but I still dig it a bunch. I've since learned that it was the first one written for the album (as in the case of many of the band's longer songs, like In the name of Ged [anyone remember that?] and maybe Home if I remember correctly), so they were kind of finding the groove of the rest of the album, I think. Nothing wrong with it by any means.

11. In The Name Of God (9th) Like Jamesman42 said, flawless. Schmedley Wilcox was WORTH IT in my book if it meant getting that cool-ass middle part in the show. Only recently did I hear the Battle Hymn of the Republic part more clearly with decent headphones, that was a huge treat.

Excited for the final 10! I can already say 8 of my personal top 10 made the list so far – out of the remaining two, one will definitely make the list and the other will definitely not. Fun stuff!

EDIT: Just did the math and I think I figured out the songs that make up the top 10  I won't post my findings, but it was funny to look at all the notable absences and arrive squarely at a likely top 10. At this point it feels like an easy enough deduction, but I wonder if I'm right or if there are still some surprises to come (I'd say I'm 99% confident though  ). We do like our +9min songs over here at DTF, don't we?

This song keeps climbing over time. Just a tremendous piece of music. And it's middle section actually has something to do with the actual song. James kills on the outro. Amazing!

I had Six Degrees On Inner Turbulence as Not Rated.
Seriously, it's 40 minutes of...nothing. If it was broken up into individual tracks, the only thing I would've rated would've been Solitary Shell, probably at around #55-#60ish.
I wish they had made this Disc 1 when they released 6 D's. I think it pales to actual Disc 1.

Ah here we go. The big song, with lots of awesomeness throughout. About To Crash and Solitary Shell are my favourites here, but the whole thing is just great. Goodnight Kiss is beautiful too.

The Count of Tuscany- My #19. Yes, the lyrics are cheesy af. No, that doesn't change the fact that a lot of the music is really cool. As much as I'm down on the last couple of albums from the first Portnoy era, they certainly ended it on a high note.

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence- I had this back at #49. It's good, it's got some great moments, but I don't think it's great overall. I also don't usually think of it as one song. I know that's what the band says it is and so that's what it is, but it feels structured way more like a suite of distinct songs in my personal opinion.

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence was my highest ranked song. The overture sets the stage perfectly for epic into the mind. The suite contains a bit of everything Dream Theater is about in my view. At parts beautiful and moving at parts hard and heavy at parts epic and theatrical. So many great parts in this.... some favorites Solitary Shell, War Inside My Head, The Test That Stumped Them All and of course the goosebump inducing Goodnight Kiss and then finishing on Losing Time, Grand Finale.... I love every minute of it. Dream Theater at their best.
The Count of Tuscany ended up at 56th place. It's not a bad song but in this case it would have climbed a bit with better lyrics. Musically I like it a lot but lyrically I cringe each time unfortunately.

The Count of Tuscany was my #27. Despite its silly lyrics, musically it's just breathtaking. I also had the privilege to see it live a couple of times.

Six degrees of inner turbulence was my #51. The reason it didn't rank higher probably lies in the fact that I hardly ever listen to the studio version. The Score performance is where it's at. I'm not a fan of the Overture, and some of the bits are better than others, but overall, it's still great.

6 DOIT. 57. And that's generous really. Rarely listen to it, and when I do a lot of it is a slog. The overture is disney cheese, and completely lacks the excitement that O2928 generates.

The Count of Tuscany is without a doubt one of their most beautiful songs, where the lyrics warps back on an actual encounter Petrucci had in Tuscany. Not topnotch, but the melody is so good, it doesn't matter at all. I really think LaBrie's outro is wunderful and among his very best performances. I saw it twice here in the Netherlands... and both time - next to The Ministry - is was the most goose-bumping moment of the whole evening. Also the Daily Doug did his very best reactionvideo on The Count, he definitely drilled a new depth for me on this epic.
