Jimi did indeed do the Baywatch theme, we were more of the opinion it's like the 3-4 minute montage scene setting music that appeared in most episodes depending on the story arc... If I'm not mistaken, C.J. (Pammie Anderson) was playing the saxophone on some rocks at one stage... Maybe she was playing 'Another Day'...  :rollin ;D

Oh, well the only Baywatch episode I've watched in the past 20 years is the one with the WCW wrestlers for the sake of the hilarious badness, so I can't relate to that. I only know the theme, because it's Jimi Jamison. :lol And the incredibad outro theme sung by the Hoff himself.

I've been listening to Rush's Hemispheres for nearly 25 years, and I still have no idea what some of you are talking about in regards to a melody from it being on this record.

Check this at 12.44 mark and it will surely take you less than 25 years to notice what we are talking about  :)

 I knew someone was going to do that, post the Rush song, even though I have heard it a million times to where I know it like the back of my hand. :lol :lol

Sorry mate...your joke was such a great one to the extent that I missed it... it is either me or you should be using the green color more often

Nefarius

Brother, Can You Hear Me? has a certain Pink Floyd flavor in the intro and the flow of the melody.

The first minute of A Life Left Behind feels a lot like Spock's Beard to me.

The piano intro and a few melodies of Ravenskill gave me To The Moon (computer game) flashbacks.

The acoustic guitars in Heaven's Cove were like Queensrÿche meet On The Backs Of Angels, the synth/piano melody twists a little later just scream Ayreon.

Greetings...

The piano intro to The X Aspect always makes me think of the Lonely Man music from The Incredible Hulk, impossible for me to unhear.

Had to have my husband listen to it and tell me what it was. I recognized it instantly, but couldn't place it!

DarkLord_Lalinc

Heaven's Cove reminds me of Diablo 1/Diablo II Tristram music.

There is a section in A New Beginning, a short solo before the middle piano section ("Not long ago..") which has a big Queen vibe.

I'm very surprised that no-one has mentioned 3:22 in Moment of Betrayal and 1:04 in The Enemy Inside.

The first part of it is the exact same rhythm, all on the snare. It immediately jumped out at me, maybe I'm the only one  :lol

Dreamer

This may already have been mentioned, in A Life Left Behind, the verse that ends " And Somehow I'll find you"
It sounds exactly like something by some other American AOR band, I cant quite place it - is it Boston?

Lycanthrope

The whole thing reminds of Disney's Beauty and the Beast...

Specifically, as mentioned elsewhere, I hear the theme from Rush's 2112 Oracle: The Dream in Dystopian Overture.

RAIN

The Answer.....is the most Disney song ever.  You can totally sing "I can go the Distance" from Hercules, and "Do You Want to build a Snow Man" from Frozen to the song.

And yes....uh...I have done the above...but I have little daughters so it's not weird, right?  ;)

Sir GuitarCozmo

When I got to around :41 in 2285 Entr'acte, it reminded me of the line around :21 in War Inside My Head.

genome

There's a big comment thread on Moment of Betrayal video saying that 1:22 sounds like "The Great Debate"

Am I deaf or can I not figure out which part?  :-\

Kotowboy

Didnt know where else to post this - every topic is about the new album :lol

but - the piano fadeout in "The Answer Lies Within" from Octavarium makes me think of Murph's theme from Interstellar.

The "you are acting very strange" is apparantly like "anarchistic moral vision" or "life to save life". It's a bit of a stretch IMO.

Lowdz

Heavens cove towards the end reminds me of the James Bond music.

Our new world reminds me of House of Lords' Under Blue Skies

Even if you didn't, nothing wrong with that.  They are both great movies.

Instead of saying what songs, I'll give you the lyrics I can't stop hearing:

"Brother Can You Hear Me?
I am just a man
Known across the desert
Beyond the shadows in the sand"

Ha!  Totally.  I knew I couldn't have been the only one.

Begin Again is way more Disney.

I'm super surprised this one hasn't been discussed yet

3:43 of Moment Of Betrayal

is basically the same as:

8:04 of On The Backs Of Angels

To the untrained ear the differences are very subtle. the only obvious difference is the faster tempo of MOB.

Another one that was mentioned elsewhere but not in this thread is during the solo of When Your Time Has Come quotes a phrase from The Spirit Carries On solo

DragonAttack

The first two minutes of 'A New Beginning'.....'Simon Zealotes / Poor Jerusalem',...yet again, from JC Superstar.

Christ, you know I love you
Did you see I waved?
I believe in you and God
So tell me that I'm saved
Repeat

Jesus, I am with you
Touch me! Touch me Jesus!
Jesus, I am on your side
Kiss me! Kiss me Jesus!
*****
Father, I implore you
Don't believe a word
He is not the enemy
That is just absurd

You may see his talent
As some kind of threat
But I knew we were meant to be
From the day we met

If you recognise these Rush lyrics you may recognise a very similar recurring melody in The Astonishing:

I have memory and awareness
But I have no shape or form
As a disembodied spirit
I am dead and yet unborn

I have passed into Olympus
As was told in tales of old
To the city of immortals
Marble white and purest gold.

Ok...I'll admit it. The only reason I'm in this thread is to see if this was in here.

Carry on.

Ben_Jamin

The entire album reminds me of past works.

This part from Dystopian Overture (and A New Beginning) sounds extremely familiar to me:

https://vocaroo.com/i/s0WnqDoo2Pab

Does it sound familiar to anyone else? If so, do you know what it sounds like?

I think this sounds like the chorus to Pain of Salvation's 'America'.

1neeto

Not sure if mentioned, but Dystopian Overture beginning riff reminds me of ANTR.

Oh yeah. The ending of "Hymn Of 1000 Voices" also feels similar to "Silent Night" - there are some identical melodies there.
