DT went full k-pop.

I guess DT need to break up with their wives, so that they have something to sing about?  :mehlin

RMGadelha

Noooo, K-pop and J-pop give me diseaseeees.

But yeah, I'm getting more and more excited for this album. Btw, merry solstice, everyone! I wish DT would give us something, hehe.

Noxon, is there anything you can say about the track lengths? Are there any longer songs on the album, or are most around 4 minutes?

BlackInk

Yeah, since you've revealed the track lengths in the past, when would you, if at all, could you do it this time around? Aside from the music itself, I'd say track lengths is what I'm most interested in at this point.

Well, let me state it through the words of my partner (common law wife), who has had to endure my fandom of DT since before we even met 16 years go. And lately, a certain something has been spinning when we drive somewhere.

"I like this, it reminds me of Scenes From A Memory, because it's not so noisy and busy all the time"

My daughter suddenly asked me for the name of one of the tracks cause she wanted to find it on the Apple Music app (she's normally into whatever 9 year old girls are into).

Conclusion: 2 out of 2 female listeners like it.

So, the album is so mindblowingly good that even people who are not fan of the band or the genre dig it, kinda like everyone and their mother can appreciate Wish you Were Here and Stairway to Heaven? WHOAH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably when the review embargo is lifted.

BTW: Are reviewers generally allowed to disclose the embargo date?

With regards to tracklengths and so forth; I'm not going to reveal them yet. But I'll give you a hint as to what to expect.

The median track length is not far from the average track length.

Think The Wall.

Think Tommy.

Think Jesus Christ Superstar.

Think Disney Musicals.

Only as played by Dream Theater.

Can you say if even a single song is above 10 minutes?

RMGadelha

I checked the track lengths for both the wall and tommy since I don't listen to those bands. The longest track in one was around the 6 minute mark and the other at the 9 or 10 minute mark. I have to say, if The Astonishing matches this, I won't mind at all. Would love to get something different this time.

fadetoblackdude7

I think the title track will be the only one over 10 minutes, if there is one at all.

Thematt202

Given that this is the first time we've been in full pre-release promo mode over the festive period, I can't believe there was no "Six o'clock on a Christmas morning" Easter egg.  Talk about missing a trick...  ???

SuperTaco

I sorta have a feeling it'll be a different song over 10 minutes, not the title track. Just a guess though.

No.

Why is that?  Embargo, or just enjoying the feeling of "power"? ;)

I think Noxon or Bosk mentioned that the band is more careful with information this time around, considering that this album is something really special.

noxon

Well, was my "no" an answer to the first question or the second question? :P
