What's happening with this? Has they been any status update recently?

All we know is that it will be released on a Tuesday.

SystematicThought

I thought I had read somewhere that they were aiming for this August. But then again they might have meant August 2017

From Richard Chycki

4/9/14

On March 25, my good friends Dream Theater performed at the Boston Opera House, joined by students from their alma mater Berklee. The show was recorded for a DVD release and is currently in post production and mixing here. This will be a great one!

Be well,

R.

Someone claimed that JLB said that in a Canadian performance. Not sure which.

I imagine they filmed it quite early on the tour to give them a bit more leeway with post-production, after the last one went on so long.

Clearly, it's worked.

Damn, I read the title and expected to read some news :-\

Hopefully it will sound better than Luna Park. To be honest, seeing that it is going to be the same team that worked on DT12, my expectations aren't too high. Awesome setlist though and I'll be a first day buyer.

?

Two months have passed since the show was filmed and some people are already expecting news - didn't you guys learn anything from what happened with LALP? :lol

kirksnosehair

I was at this show, front row balcony center/right and the band was definitely very tight.  LaBrie was fantastic.  No clams all night that I can recall.

His voice breaks during IT though, they will have to fix that.

Chycki mixed the Christmas release and, even though it was basically a collection of soundboard recordings, I thought it actually sounded better than LALP.  So I'm happy that he's doing this.

To ask or not to ask and have it ruined for me....

I also thought the Christmas gift sounded better than Luna Park.

Going by the show before and after Boston (I think I've seen one video from Boston as well but can't recall), he hit "salvation" but failed "brave".

This 1000%.  The DT Xmas release had a similar mix to ADTOE album - keyboards very profound, didn't let the guitar drown anything out.

Interesting. I've seen a bunch of videos on youtube, and only in like three did he even go for the F on "salvation", but he's nailed "fame" on every one to make up for it. Haven't heard too big of a screw up on "brave" in any of them that I recall, but that isn't too huge of a note.

edit: I think the three I saw where he went for the F were indeed the ones directly before and after the Boston show.

King Postwhore

Yeah, one note will ruin this DVD for me. :lol

If that's the case, all DVD from DT are ruined.
"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'." - Bon Newhart.

TheAtliator

:lol No really! I always focus on that one note that is hardest to hit and it's all I can think about the whole DVD long! I mean I ruin it for myself the more I ponder about the tiny details of that one note and which nights were best and how real the DVD performance is!

VincentMDO

I think it's pretty unlikely they'll released it before finishing up this whole tour. It'd be a spoiler for other coutries.

King Postwhore

 :lol

I personally like hearing mistake on live CD's or DVD's.  Makes it live to me!

TAC

James mentioned in Philly that that were hoping for an August release.

James was excellent in Boston, though I think he was actually stronger in Philly. James has been on fire this tour, and while Boston may not have been his best show, that should by no means mean that he was not good. Again, he was excellent. Nothing to worry about people.
That said, the IT section was a bit rough, and will likely get a patch. Same for when he thanks the "Boston" College of Music at the end of the show!

They will also have to amend the end of Finally Free as MM tries to end the song prematurely.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

TheAtliator

Well I am super excited for this DVD.

But I hope some day DT puts out a completely un-touched DVD again. And I feel like LALP could have been that, but it wasn't. I actually prefer some of the notes on the original recordings I've heard from those two nights over the final product!

No, the Holiday special is so much better than the original. (Hear that Bosk?)

Ya know, it's funny, Warner took down my video of IT, which probably did not deter people from buying the Blu Ray that was shot at an angle at which the orchestra can be seen, with optical zooming, in a decent codec, with cameras that cost more than $50 with contract that did not shake and with audio that wasn't constantly broken by my annoying voice, down for copyright even though it probably just encouraged sales.
JLB's voice breaks at some point early on (Enemy Inside maybe) and also two or three syllables after surrender. It probably does at least once more, I haven't sat down with the recording.

RaiseTheKnife

Regarding "flubs" -- Don't forget the House of Blues show soundcheck, which I imagine could serve as a good source for "correcting" any flubs in the DVD.

Grizz

Hmm, I found a soundboard recording of an Italian DT show.

Can't say I like Petrucci's tone this time around. What's he using this tour? A Triaxis?

rumborak

Wow, that was rough. JP made so many mistakes, that was surprising.

DarkLord_Lalinc

That was by the beginning of the tour, so it doesn't surprise me JP was a little rusty. The whole band's performance really went 10 notches up as the tour progressed, it shows they became more comfortable with the setlist and the show itself.
