The Dark Eternal Night is easily the worst Dream Theater song, what a load of fuck. Nothing about it is death metal though, and nothing about Opeth is death metal either.

wat

Opeth is prog metal that has harsh vocals. Death metal is bands like Possessed, Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, Decapitated, and Morbid Angel; Opeth is nothing like those bands. Harsh vocals =/= death metal

They aren't a death metal band, but I can't see how someone could claim they're "nothing like" death metal. They clearly have death metal elements. (up until Heritage, obviously)

He didn't update the main list at the first page! Although i was sure he was joking.
Your list is sooooo weird, man. I agree with a lot of things, but putting Metropolis in that place was very surprising.
Nice top, at all  :tup

Why are there people even taking that last post seriously? He even put the :neverusethis: face.

I'm not sure what you're saying. Are you agreeing with me, or highlighting your disagreement?

What death metal elements do they have? Sure the vocals are somewhat similar to some death metal vocalists, but that's all I hear. There are no blast beats, shredding solos, not much double bass work, no tremolo picked riffs, etc. Opeth is just a metal version of King Crimson basically.

So wait... the top three was actually serious or what?

Now, time for the real thing. I'll post the remaining later.

3- Peruvian Skies (One in a LiveTime/High Voltage 2011)
FII is equal awesome and weird. Luckily, Peruvian Skies has only the former. The main riff, the chorus, the solos, James, John, Mike, Derek, John; this song is brilliant and perfect. This first half has a cool PF vibe and is quite calm: the remaining is raawwkkk  :metal and even more awesome.
I can't choose a version: the album track has an awesome sound and production; OiaLT has extended sections, some of them weird and another very cool; and the High Voltage performance is brilliant. Definitely my fav FII song  :heart.

425

I've never understood the affection for this one. I mean, it's a fine song, but in my book Dream Theater has many, many songs that are far better.

Evermind

Good song, one of the highlights of FII, but still feels too high for me.

Good song, and great song to hear live.  Just a tad too fucking high.

Crow

Don't understand it being this high but it's a great song that really crept up my own list when I was making it (started it around 45 and when organizing further it ended up around 30, so...)
turns out signatures are fundamentally broken now so here's my passive-aggressive signature about signatures instead

Me neither, I just love it.

2- The Great Debate
Everything on this track is pure perfection.  Jordan's riff is brilliant and the buildup is heavenly. I really love the small references to the other songs on the album, those are that kind of awesome details that DT no longer makes. Anyways, the structure of this song is awesome, great songwriting. The "Miracle potential..." part is my fav DT moment ever. Oh man, I can't love this song more than I love the #1, but both of them are amazing and perfect.

I can still equate TGD as a ramp going downward for the most part
not perfectly accurate but it works close enough, everything after the little bit before the last "turn to the light" section" (including that section) is a complete waste of my time and nothing is as good as the intro buildup anyways

pls. The whole of TGD is amazing.

The Great Debate is 50 fifty shades of kick-ass, though I think #2 is still too high for it.

I have the slightest notion that something off of FII will be your #1.

The Great Debate :metal And I thought I had it pretty high on my list! Can't say I disagree, it is a great song from start to finish in my opinion :)

That tells me you're not very well versed in death metal. I mean Akerfeldt's harsh vocals sound nothing like Jeff Becerra, Chuck Schuldiner, or David Vincent who are the archetype vocalists of the genre. Akerfeldt sounds kind of like Chris Barnes(much more so in Bloodbath than Opeth though), but to say is vocals are the definition of death metal vocals is silly. And this gets to my point; harsh vocals is the only similarity Opeth has to death metal and harsh vocals does not death metal make, therefore Opeth is not death metal.

Getting back on topic: Peruvian Skies is great but way too high for me, and The Great Debate is the only song on Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence that I don't think is that good. Not a bad song by any means, but it certainly wouldn't make my top 50.

Sacul's Weird and Controversial Dream Theater Top 50 Number One Song:

:hefdaddy #1- Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence :hefdaddy

With Beethoven's 9th symphony, Da Vinci´s Mona Lisa, Cervante's "Don Quijote de la Mancha" and another masterpieces, I consider 6DOIT as one of the best creations in the history of humanity (suck it, 8VM). In any case, it's my fav song ever. It's perfect, it has everything I love about DT and prog: cool instrumentals (Overture is awesome), heavyness (WIMH, TTTSTA), beauty (GK, SS), epicness (ATC(R), LT/GF), some symphonic arrangements and lots of creativity. Every section is perfect and works great both as separate tracks and as a 42-minute song. Also, every band member shines on this track . Some guys say that is just a bunch of songs connected in a weird way. I completely and violently disagree: The Score performance is brilliant, but I prefer the studio version a bit more because James is flawless. But Overture by dat orchestra is heavenly  :metal. Please, DT, release Score on Blu Ray.
IMO, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is both DT's greatest song and greatest album ever, their creativity zenith. Everything that came after is not good enough.

I hope you have enjoyed this list and disagreeing completely with me :neverusethis:. I may remake this top in the future, after DT13 or DT14 are released.

No.

Six Degrees as one song is not worth top 70.
