So great to see IF so high, I see myself putting it in my top 10 as well. "Callow and vain..." is one of my all-time favorite DT sections and the ending is amazing.

jakepriest

Surrounded and IF are amazing. LaBrie totally nails both.

TSCO is very overrated.

Also your top three are YNM, BMUBMD, and PoW.
PoW is at #43 but you are somehow close :neverusethis:

Very unique list so far :P
Thanks!

TSCO is very overrated.
Not for me .

I forgot to update these lists, take this for the pain:

Top 5 songs that should/could be on the top
2- Fatal Tragedy

Maybe in the future, when I'll redo the entire top, I'd include this one. The chorus is amazing, the instrumental section a bit meh but the ending is great.

Top 5 worst DT songs ever
2- A Rite of passage.

Awful. The main riff is disgusting, but the chorus even more and also stupid . Everytime I listen to BC&SL I just skip this track, I can't stand it, dull as hell.  I don't know if Petrucci is a mason (maybe a masonic god) or not, but this song is very deep on DT's catalogue, but only one thing can be worse than this.

I'd like to know when "disgusting" became a positive descriptor. Do people say that about food? "Yeah man, this burger's totally disgusting!"

I don't know about you, but sacul's list so far is pretty disgusting then. :lol

This one I can get behind. Definitely my least favorite off of Black Clouds. I just find it wildly inconsistent. It has its moments to shine like the riff and Jame's vocal melodies, but it isn't enough to really help it take off since much of the rest never seems to go anywhere (the instrumental section in particular).

To its credit, I do love the chorus.

It's getting harder for me to comment without giving away the rest of my list, which is why I haven't been saying much, but I will say that you've made a lot of choices I really like recently. However, I think A Rite of Passage is a very good song that is probably in my top 65. And the chorus is the best part... :(

Crow

Yay AROP hate  :heart
The more and more I hear that one the worse it gets. I might have put it too high on my list.
turns out signatures are fundamentally broken now so here's my passive-aggressive signature about signatures instead

My brother kept trying to convince me that this is a thing now, but I still have yet to hear anyone else use that term in that way.

Well, it works with 'nasty' or 'dirty' and it's just a matter of time before every single world becomes an auto-antonym anyway.

ARoP is amazing (the chorus riff  :metal) and miles better than Fatal Tragedy imho. Wither is the weakest BC&SL track.

son_ov_hades

The Spirit Carries On and Surrounded are incredible, perfect songs. I like Innocence faded, but its way higher than I'd put it. Very interested to see your number one, and I couldn't even try to guess at it.

4- Surrounded
The best track on I&W. It's so beautiful and perfect; I can't see why some people call it cheesy. So many cheesy songs would kill to be like Surrounded. They would like to have an awesome solo, some beautiful keys and a demi-god singer. And no, I don't think LALP ruined it, that was CiM.

Well said, I totally agree!

Your list has been really interesting, looking forward to seeing your top 3!

Agreed 100%. I like Petrucci's solo and JR's intro on CiM, but the mixing of that live album and James' voice are so terrible I hate just about every song on that album. Surrounded and TSCO on LALP sound a little less emotional and somewhat artificial compared to the studio version and Score version, respectively.

Sacul

Thanks guys for the support! You may be surprised with the top 3 :neverusethis: Before today's update, I'll finish the remaining lists.

Top 5 worst songs ever

1- The Dark Eternal Crap Night

Awful, disgusting, dull, abominable, nasty, dreadful. I don't get why DT composed this. This song deserves the stake. I don't like anything on this, even when the chorus and the instrumental section aren't so bad. Also, those growls and distorted voices make it even worse, because I really hate Death Metal (that's why Damnation is my fav Opeth album :metal).

Honorable mentions:
Stream of Conciousness
Panick Attack

Top 5 songs that could/should be on this top

1- 6:00

What a cool tune. From the initial drum fill till the end is great. It was on my list for a few days but I replaced it when I heard the TAMP demo. I hope the band plays it on this tour!

okay.
I hate TDEN too! Your worst list overlaps with mine in the bottom three, is cool.
6:00 is wonderful though :c

Tom Bombadil

Agree with TDEN. 6:00 should've made the list, so I'm ok with you placing it #1 on "Should've made the list" :lol

And I hate SOC and Panic Attack too, so we have very similar tastes :tup

son_ov_hades

The Dark Eternal Night is easily the worst Dream Theater song, what a load of fuck. Nothing about it is death metal though, and nothing about Opeth is death metal either.

Sycsa

I'm not a metal guy by a long shot, came to DT from a '70s progrock background, thus pretty much despised TDEN at first, but it grew immensely on me and I'd easily put it in my top 50 now. It's just so much fun. The chorus, the drumming and the instrumental section are huge.

ThatOneGuy2112

I find TDEN actually quite listenable. It's probably mid-tier when it comes to SC. I never really understood the immense hate it gets. There are bits I really do like, for example, the chorus being just killer. I will say SC has so much better to offer though.

Laughingplace56

TDEN, much like Constant Motion, is a very fun song. Not top 50 material, but fun to listen to. I hated it the first time i listened to it, but it grew on me. I'm also very much into metal and not just Progressive Rock/Metal.

Ok guys, time to unveil the lon-awaited top 3!

3- You Not Me
This track has such a gorgeous atmosphere and lots of swag. It's brilliant, specially the chorus, one of my all-time favs. The guitar solo is  :hefdaddy. Even better than that crap of You or Me :tdwn.

2- Burning My Soul
I love the intro and the way it builds up to the first verse is amazing. The keyboard solo by Sherinian is fucking awesome, better that anything Rudess has ever made in his entire life; I don't know why they hired him.  Anyways, I could sing "Burning my sooooooooooouuul" all day long. The diversity, awesome songwriting and epicness is only beaten by the following track.

1- Build me Up, Break Me Down
Dream Theater's magnum opus. The shinning star in a dull album. The centerpiece of every setlist. A must-listen for every progger. The beauty and epicness of the chorus is unbeatable; one of the best creations of humanity. Suck it, Octavarium.
I hope you have enjoyed this list so far.

Opeth is prog metal that has harsh vocals. Death metal is bands like Possessed, Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, Decapitated, and Morbid Angel; Opeth is nothing like those bands. Harsh vocals =/= death metal
