I never understood the reason for pre-ordering a copy on itunes.

I tried once and it never even worked, it made me buy the album again. I was really pissed, and too tired and had to be off to work to call Apple about it.

You gotta reserve yours now in case they run out of downloadable copies.

Okay, here's the deal (which is pretty much what I thought), straight from official sources:

1.  The deluxe edition DVD is only a 5.1 mix of the album.  So the deluxe consists of a regular mix of the album and a 5.1 mix of the album.

2.  The memory stick in the special edition contains two items:  The stems and the 30-minute "documentary."  The documentary is not separate from the Mangini jam.  The Mangini jam is about 20 minutes of the documentary.


Hopefully, that explanation helps you make an informed decision about which version you will be buying.  Please do not clog up the thread with complaints about "why did they have to do it that way?  Why couldn't they have done X instead?"

So it looks like it'll be the standard edition for me.

If I had a sound system (and a record player  ), I would consider the box set.

Nonetheless, the album will be a great birthday gift. My birthday's on the 25th

If i remember correctly my ADTOE Box was sent from the UK to Germany.

I ordered the ADTOE boxset last time also from the same store and it was shipped from the EU I think it was either Spain or Germany. Plus the shipping on that box was 18.80 euro

Okay, that's my mistake. Either way the shipping costs are high. But better than ADTOE apparently..

This. I play CDs thru my iMac and studio monitors. I don't have 5.1 so there's no need for the DVD edition.

I always buy Special Editions if there is one - but in this case it looks like there's really no point.

Put the 30 min doc on the 2 disc edition and we're good to go.

Seeing that they corrected the album cover due to us fans complaining, they might change the CD/DVD edition as well

There are rare exception when a 5.1 mix downmixed to stereo sounds better that the regular stereo mix. The most prominent one is Opeth's Still Life, where the CD has very annoying dropouts.

If the stereo mix here is brickwalled (and it probably will be), downmixing the 5.1 could be a solution. Let's wait and see...

I have bought the deluxe edition of ADTOE, and I'm glad I did it.

But I'm not sure about this one.

The USB is amazing, I would love to hear the jam. 

If instead of the 5.1 DVD you could get an instrumental mix, I would buy it for sure!

The standard edition has a 28 page booklet: i think it's their longest booklet ever, and i've always loved booklets. So i think i'll go with it.

Shipping such a big and heavy item from the US to Europe would be more like 30€... A single LP means at least $20 shipping.
