The forum seems a ton more impatient in the build-up to this album than to ADTOE.

IT IS DONE.  :hat

Um... the character's name is Wile E. Coyote.

Anyways... I doubt we'll see a single until the pre-orders come out, and if they're not out til August now, I'd say we get a single in the 2nd or 3rd week of August.

Also, this might be the first time since they've entered their Record/Release/Tour cycle where they haven't started a tour before an album's release date. Usually when they tour before the album's released, they play the new single, so they have a reason to release a single early on. With no tour until January, they may wait longer to release the single, closer to album's release time.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't release the first single until the end of August, one month before the album comes out.

Better this way, IMO. This means we won't overplay the single before we get the album.

So it seems now that pre orders are not going to start until August

Yet ANOTHER DT-related event this year not to occur on time.  This is becoming a disturbing pattern.

It is possible that the pre-orders will start on July 31st. :neverusethis:

Does anyone know how many copies ADTOE sold?
I think this album increased DT's fan base... but I'm not sure.
Wonder if the self titled album will bring more people to the ship...

I think that's because DT (or atleast the forum) has been steadily growing in popularity over time.

Wait what?.....when did a pre-order become an event?

Mosh

Seriously. It's not like they pushed back the release date or anything.

Kotowboy

The best thing that could happen with a pre order is you get it on release day.

The same day you can go and buy it yourself in a shop.

I don't pre -order anymore in case it's late and I don't get it on release day.

Not true! I've received pre-orders ahead of release. I got Muse's The Resistance a full weekend before it was meant to be released, and I seem to recall a similarly lucky acquisition of James LaBrie's Elements of Persuasion.

That said, I do basically agree. A pre-order is essential on items you can expect to sell out quickly - games consoles are a big one - but rarely necessary in the music world. They're frankly more useful for the artists than the customers, cos they guarantee first-day sales - good for chart positions. Personally, though, I don't generally like to leave my listening experience at the mercy of the postal service. For every time an album's arrived early, there's another it's arrived late, and I'd have been better off going to the shops. Unless there are specific pre-order bonuses, I don't see the point, and I've long since given it up. I prefer the excitement of buying my music on the physical plane, anyway. Feels like more of a quest.

thunderdog10

they should offer the an instant download of the CD when you pre-order. they could do it the same as they do for the magazines, mark it so they can trace if anyone leaks it, and then we would get it sooner and they get alot more pre-orders. i for one thinks it sucks that a magazine writer who probably doesnt give a crap about DT gets to hear it 2 months before the paying customer.

chrisbDTM

yea my BC&SL boxset came the friday before the release date. you can get lucky sometimes

Mosh

Speaking of boxsets, how much was the last one? I kinda wanted to know how much this would be a few months ahead of time, but since that's not going to happen I might as well ask here.

Flacracker

So when an album goes on sale on a site like Amazon or iTunes we always get the 30 second samples right?

wolven74

I find it interesting that already, months in advance of release, there are at least 3 stand out tracks on this album.

     1. Illumination Theory--the 20 minute epic (hopefully penned--at least in part--by JM)

     2. False Awakening Suite--the epic opener, presumably symphonic in places, heavy and dark in others.

     3. Enigma Machine--The long awaited instrumental

All of this is speculation of course; I could be completely off, but these 3 tracks are already huge in my mind. I can only hope they live up to what I imagine them to be when I hear the album for the first time.

Itunes is pretty reliable about giving samples of the songs when an album is released. Not sure about Amazon. Sometimes they give you samples, and sometimes I've seen albums where there aren't any samples, just the track listing.

dparrott

They initially said pre-orders would start July, now it's August.

In my recent experience with waiting for Amazon snippets, most of the time they were only put available very few weeks or even days before the actual release date. You know they are available when you search for the album name and among the results you see (MP3 Music, or MP3 Album or whatever). Also, you usually have better luck with the German amazon (not sure about the Japanese one), seeing that the albums get released earlier there. German Amazon sometimes put a link to some sort of "radio" in which you can listen to snippets.

And there`s so many reasons for that.

Also regarding the snipets: It's best not to post links to snipets as soon as you see them, even if they are on legitimate sites like Amazon. The band doesn't directly okay that kind of thing, so they could count as links and get you banned. (Speaking from experience)

I remember when the pre orders for ADTOE were available on iTunes a few weeks before the album was released, there weren't any samples, but the track lengths were there.

wasteland

No ADTOE sample went out on amazon. It happened with some other japanese site, though.

Not occurring on time? Who sets the schedule? What they've done in the past is a pattern, not a schedule. If they SAID they would release something and didn't (like on the DVD) that's Disappointing. That's all.

You're right. And he also would not let us have an album without death growls. I'll consider we came out ahead on the deal.

He's a magazine writer, not a fan. There's a big difference. As far as marking an instant release goes so they can trace it. So what, the cat's out of the bag and even if they find out who leaked it, there's more damage done than it would be worth.
