I don't think Dream Theatour is that great of a name for a tour, but I'm glad you guys liked my idea... :lol

wasteland

Well, "An Evening With Dream Theater & Dream Theater" would be better for me :D

All this discussion about how the album is self titled and what that means kind of reminds me of how many albums Peter Gabriel released that were self titled at the start of his career.  :lol
Maybe DT will do it too? :P

This thread. Because we need 3 threads on every topic :lol

Right...  because when the band sends their press release directly to the admins of this forum, that certainly doesn't justify the admins going along with the band's wishes and posting it in its own thread right at press time.  You are correct.  Clearly, we don't know what we are doing.   :\

Regarding the press release and album news, it's cool that they gave us this information so early.  Typically, a press release like this might include song titles or a bit more information about the album.  But keep in mind, this announcement is VERY early.  The release date is a good 15 1/2 weeks away.  Usually, initial album press releases come out and start the album marketing cycle about 10 weeks before release date on average.  So I think we still probably have awhile to wait before a track listing, a single, etc.  I'm speculating a bit here, but I think maybe they gave us this a bit early to kind of throw us fans a bone since we've been waiting SO long for Luna Park.  Just...be patient and know that as info becomes available, it will definitely be posted here and on DT.net.

Today, two years ago, we knew the tracklisting of ADToE (except Bridges in the Sky, because it was still Shaman's Trance then.)

I was thinking that maybe they don't want to announce a tracklist before finishing mixing/mastering, in case the sequence order of the album changes or isn't finalized yet? Just a thought, so that could be off-base.

Yeah, that fits right into the fact that, again, in terms of how far out this is from the release date, this is an EARLY announcement.

I know MP showed BCASL snippets about this early, if not a little earlier (they were pre-mixes, and I recall they had just finished recording it?), but I think they usually hold off on announcing an album title / tracklist etc until it's mixed/mastered and has an album cover of some sort. So this is definitely a little earlier than usual.

We should expect a tracklist at the VERY LATEST the end of July, though I think we'll see it much, MUCH earlier:

"'DREAM THEATER' will be available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard and special edition CDs, 180 Gram Vinyl Double LP, and a Limited Edition Box Set. Pre-orders are scheduled to get underway sometime in July at the Roadrunner Records Webstore."

In reality I'll think we'll know the tracklist within a week. Just my feeling. Then a single will probably be released the first week of July.

Songs named after the band are the lamest thing imaginable.

( inb4 - but you like da green day and they have a song called green day they must be lame olo )

Slightly different - the band was named after the song.

Also - lyrics with the band name in are all kinds of terrible too.

" We'll never stop, we'll never quit cause we're Metallica !!!!! "

:lol

Scorpion

What makes that lyric even worse is that they seem to have taken it to heart when they really shouldn't have.

If there is a self-titled track, I think it will be the instrumental one.

I'd be betting on the opening track, if anything, which might be cool. I personally don't think the instrumental track would be a self titled song, despite being on a self titled album.

On some radio: "...aaand that a song called Dream Theater from the album Dream Theater by the band Dream Theater. Dream Theater!" /BobDole

This is just for my own clarification: has the album itself actually been finished?

Wow. Seeing a lot of self-titled albums these past few years. Here's hoping the album cover follows what Queensryche's doing and just has the name in purple and a giant Majesty logo slapped on it.  :lol I look forward to the follow-up, Nightmare Cinema:P

(It is sad that I visit this board every day yet haven't even seen the news of this until this morning.)

Manowar, anyone?  :P

MrBoom_shack-a-lack

I'm perfectly fine with them doing a track called Dream Theater, i guess their intention would be to do a kind of portrait of their music or a celebration of their success and music in one track or just a very DT-esque song.

BTW:

Dimmu Borgir - Dimmu Borgir
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
Manowar - Manowar  :(
Motorhead - Motorhead
Masterplan - Masterplan
Darkane - The Arcane Darkness

:)

What are the odds on a title being changed? For a track, or even (dare I say it) the album? Remember Bridges in the Sky was originally called The Shaman's Trance?
