Cool Chris

I want a writer to release a self-titled book.

"#1 on the New York Times Best Seller list: Stephen King, with his new novel, Stephen King."
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

First Queensryche, now Dream Theater.

The self-titled trend continues, which is all good with me.

Can't wait.

YES.  Exactly! :metal

It would be funny if Fates Warning did it as well, with their album that comes out this fall.  It's their first in almost 10 years, so maybe they will view it as a rebirth and go the self-titled route.  Those three bands have always been closely linked in the progressive metal genre, so it would be pretty amusing.
Imagine if they wanted to self-title it all along, and then DT and Queensryche announced theirs first. Serves Jim right for not getting an album out in bloody ten years :P

Jaq

All this discussion about how the album is self titled and what that means kind of reminds me of how many albums Peter Gabriel released that were self titled at the start of his career.  :lol

Can you imagine if the internet had been around back then when he did it the second time?

No doubt this has the potential to please many of DT's current fanbase, but I think it has great potential in bringing DT to the mainstream limelight. This could be the breakthrough that the success of the last three albums has been leading up to. I used to bring up DT in conversation and no one would know who I was talking about. Now, it's like a good 50% of people know who they are. I am very very excite for this album. :caffeine:

I agree.  I feel like DT might be taking one last stab at mainstream success here, especially if the simple purple majesty logo is the album cover (Just like Metallica ditching their album title/cover formula for the Black album).  The general public don't seem to go for proggy covers and album titles.  Maybe DT decided to ride the wave of their grammy nomination.  I might do teh same thing if I were in their position.  I just hope they don't lose the essence of what made DT, DT.
An unofficial online community for fans of keyboardist Kevin Moore:

Perpetual Change

Consdering DT's average age is probably around 50, I'm not so sure that can happen. DT are about as mainstream as they can get. The heavy metal and classic rock and prog fans are well aware of them and have been for some time, and they'll never get more relevant than they are now to younger people.

So I dont' think the fans are going anywhere, but I can't see them ever being a huge mainstream success.

this made may day...now I'm more excited to get new album than wait  to boundless DVD/BD date...

I honestly think that'd be a great place for them to start. This should be about redefining themselves as a band, as much as ADTOE was about reaffirming themselves.
:superdude:

jammindude

It seems like most people have bitched non-stop at the titles of the last three albums.   Maybe they just thought having no title would put a stop to it.

Good luck with that.   ;D

Haven't seen much hate for Octavarium and Systematic Chaos titles.

I thought Black Clouds was a good title too.

Kotowboy

I didn't.

That's the one I agree with.

This thread. Because we need 3 threads on every topic :lol

I haven't painted a proper picture of me being excited for DT12 yet, so: :caffeine: :caffeine: :caffeine: :caffeine: :caffeine: :caffeine:

That's very funny.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

Kotowboy

I once wanted to write a horror story and have the book untitled.

Never wrote it of course.

Lucien

Right now I'm more anticipating tracklist/single.

Tracklist could come out as soon as tomorrow (tomorrow, two years ago, the tracklist was released for ADToE.), and one of the songs is likely called "The Enemy Inside".

A single will probably be released within a month or so.

ResultsMayVary

It wouldn't be improbable to expect a single anytime after the first of July, since OTBOA was released in the last few days of June in 2011.

wolfking

Interesting decision to call it a self titled album, I'm expecting big things.

Eeeeyup

They could have named the new album "Shit Sandwich in F sharp"" and it wouldnt phase me.  It is DT baby!

So  psyched! :hefdaddy

A title is just a title. It's the content that matters. Also, PR quotes don't really mean shit to me either, because they'll always be filled with praise, glory and hype. 8vm, SC, and BCSL all had cool titles and lots of self hype from the band. Years later, most here rank those at the bottom of the album stack rank.

I'm mildly more excited about this, on the hopes that the band is declaring that this album is everything that DT represents ... Like how I feel the the song 8vm does.
Quote from: ReaperKK on July 28, 2018, 07:12:37 PMI didn't know I could handle another 10 inches and it was rough but in the end I'm glad I did it.

I wonder if DT will go with the classic self titled approach with no cover art, and just a solid color like Beatles White Album, or Metallica's Black Album?  Those were solid self-titled albums.  May I be the first to designate as a hypothesis Dream Theater's Fuchsia Album?

We're already calling it the Purple Album.

Dream Theater will be tourning in support of Dream Theater. Groovy.

This.

This has to happen

I think it's possible, and I would freaking love that. If they don't, it will be as much of a shame as the fact that there wasn't an Octourvarium or Systourmatic Chaos. Or Metropolis Tourthousand.

This is worthy of a quote pyramid because it is so epic.

At the very least they need to use that name on an official bootleg
