What makes that lyric even worse is that they seem to have taken it to heart when they really shouldn't have.

Those lyrics were a punch in the face to the terrible glam "metal" of the time. The intent behind them is still 100% legit.

What on earth do those lyrics have to do with glam metal? Sounds like reading too much into a pretty straightforward lyric to me.

They have nothing to do with anything.  It's something to complain about.

I'm perfectly fine with them doing a track called Dream Theater, i guess their intention would be to do a kind of portrait of their music or a celebration of their success and music in one track or just a very DT-esque song.

BTW:

Dimmu Borgir - Dimmu Borgir
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
Manowar - Manowar  :(
Motorhead - Motorhead
Masterplan - Masterplan
Darkane - The Arcane Darkness

:)

And let's not forget the most important one of all-

Speedway Boulevard - Speedway Boulevard

Featuring JR himself. :metal

OSI - OSI

On the album OSI.
:superdude:

RaiseTheKnife

Overkill - Overkill (I - V), yep they have five songs of their band name
Megadeth - Megadeath (later changed to Set the World On Fire)
Anthrax - Anthrax
Heathen - Heathen's Song
Exodus - Exodus

Technically, the album was Office of Strategic Influence

Dream = 5
Theater = 7

Do the math.

NUGGETZ

One more reason any nuggets post-Octavarium are not just coincidences.

One more reason any nuggets post-Octavarium are not just coincidences.

They hired a highly specialized tech to come up with puns and nuggetz for every DT album, DVD, youtube video or press release from here to the end of their career. We all know who this guy is, used to work with them in the past.  ::)

Quite ballsy to make it a self-titled album, if you ask me.  It's like the band is making a statement and saying: "THIS is Dream Theater.  This is the most Dream Theater-esque album album we've ever released that we don't even need an album title.  It's just Dream Theater."

Wow.  Hope they live up to the bar they've set.
To me, it sounds more like "we couldn't bother to think about an album title, so let's go for the obvious, non-committal choice".

Right because no other band has ever done a self titled album.  They are all non-committal as well. :\

Most bands do it as their first album though, which is acceptable.

You could say that's a bit of an... overkill.

Perpetual Change

People are still complaining about the album being self-titled?

Y'know, I find I enjoy the band more when I'm less involved in these kind of "debates".

Eh, people follow the news and think about them and want to discuss them each at their own pace. I don't think it's a big deal but maybe that's just me.

I prefer titled albums to self-titled albums. Adds a little more character I think.
