Damn. FII on vinyl would be amazing. I love the sound on that one.

Any chance the FII demos could be mixed mastered for a vinyl release?

I need to research vinyl players cause I seem to be missing out on some great stuff.

Just a heads up to those who interested, 252 of these as of now are already sold of the 500 colored vinyl copies so if your interested In the colored version I would grab one before they are gone.

For those who asked- The black should be available on amazon(not confirmed yet) and will 100% be in Indie retail stores in the USA in mid February but BROOKVALE RECORDS IS THE ONY PLACE TO GET THE RAREST VARIANT WHICH IS ONLY OUT OF 500 TOTAL COPIES

Caved in and just bought mine (mostly because today was a payday, but it was a pretty small paycheck...damn my love for all-things DT, shrinking my bank account...).

Will there be an update on the website (or here) as to when the Red/Gold-swirl copies will run out? And also, will the Red/Gold-swirl copies be numbered, like the SFAM vinyls were numbered?

-Marc.

Just seeing this now... will the Images vinyl have full inner sleeves? I have to say that was my one disappointment with the Scenes vinyl. Wonderful sound and looked great from the outside, but then to have the LPs themselves in the plain white sleeves was a letdown, especially at the price. I just ordered several 2LP pieces for an average of $20 shipped and they'll likely come with it. Here I'd be paying $38 shipped and would really expect that.

(Edit: And I realize the colored and limited edition make it pricier, but let's offset that with the fact that this is after all a re-issue.)

Mindflux

What's the S/T date of 2/9/13 (Saturday?) and then Street Date of 2/19/13 (Tuesday).. is 2/9/13 just a typo?

The re-presses meaning any album that was already released on the format, Since we are licensing these from their original label, it is a bit trickier in terms of what we can and cant do with the artwork. Artwork wise , the albums already pressed are going to be the same as the original release(meaning if it was a non-gatefold jacket originally than it will be similar) but the lps all be 2xlp or more and all 180 gram and remastered specifically for vinyl.

That being said, the I&W does not have a gatefold jacket as we were not able to get approval by the label for it for some reason, but all the albums that have not been pressed on vinyl before should have awesome packaging and all be gatefold jackets. For Six degrees we are thinking of doing a tri-fold jacket since it will be a 3xlp set but havent decided on the details yet.

I figured. :) Can't wait to get my hands on it.  Sad to hear it's not gate fold though.

Sad about IAW not having a gatefold jacket, but I'm excited to hear that SDOIT, TOT and 8VM will (as well as FII, and I assume Awake), mostly because, as I said up thread, 8VM's cover begs to be on a gatefold jacket! I hope all the booklet artwork is retained inside the gatefold, too!

Agreed, we try to do every release with a gatefold but the label was giving us a hard time about approving it for some reason. That being said, almost all the other ones should have a gatefold jacket

Sorry to ask as maybe I missed it but where was it said that SDOIT, TOT and 8VM would even become vinyl editions? Above the guy mentions that albums never released on vinyl would be gatefold.. so are you just using that as an assumption that these will eventually come or has there been other confirmation?

I wonder why they'd care so much, other than having to possibly provide additional artwork or some sort of pricing increase?

Awesome! I instantly preordered the swirl one once I saw this topic.

If you can say, are there any other DT albums in the works for a vinyl release? I'd love to have a full collection someday!

Assuming this one sells fairly quickly then we should be repressing the rest of their catalog in a deluxe re-issue format over the course of the next couple years

Also for those interested, we will have a few test presses available which are limited to 24 total copies and come with screen printed alt artwork jackets. I will post a pic below of the "scenes from a memory" test press which was only 5 made(portnoy has one, the band management has one, I have one, one went to brookvale and one more is for sale).  The images and words test press will be out of 24 total copies and we should have jackets for those in the next month or two, once the release starts to ship. For those who are interested in those please email or pm me, i am taking offers and trades for other records.

Just went into my record store and ordered the album!

So, will the album just be two LPs in a normal jacket then?

Yes, Two 180 gram LP's, most standard weight lps are 80-120g, usually on the lower end. The gram thickness primarily ensures that the lp wont warp over time and will be preserved but it also supposedly increases sound quality a bit as well and cuts down on the overall hiss although alot of that is based on your record player/needle as well.

Ordered mine tonight. How many are left?

I spoke to the owner of brookvale this morning and he said just under 200 were left. We are trying to get the plant to give us 1-500 and then have the black be 501-2000 but we arent sure if thats possible. Will update once the info is available. For the scenes from a memory release, it was totally random

Weren't all the SFAM discs just black vinyl?   I know i ordered mine as soon as the news broke but somehow still ended up with #27xx...  which makes me even wonder if the orders were filled sequentially.

yes they were all black and we tried to get them in order and earlier numbers but they ended up coming completely random

What are the odds you can get the license for When Dream and Day Unite?  Or original Majesty Demos?

No swirls for me. I'll end up with the black eventually. Should sound better than the original issue.

Cedar redaC

When Dream and Day Unite is basically lost to the ether as far as rights and band input are concerned if I remember correctly. I think The Majesty Demos are property of Ytsejam records so as long as James or whoever is in charge of it is cool with it, I don't see why it couldn't happen.

I'd be okay with a vinyl version of "The Majesty Demos", especially if they can sound a bit better, but I think that'd doubtful.

Besides, of the Johns and Mike, who is more likely to fork over the masters to transfer them to vinyl? More importantly, which of them HAS it? I mean, there could be a simple Majesty Demos CD -> Vinyl conversion, but I think the folks at Brookvale have been doing more than just that.

What I would LOVE to see is "A Change Of Seasons" coupled with COTC versions of "To Live Forever '94", "Don't Look Past Me" and "Eve" on a single vinyl.

I would add in Speak to Me, just to keep the original number of tracks.

I would add in Speak to Me, just to keep the original number of tracks.

If I'd add anything, it would probably be the other version of "To Live Forever":
Side 1 - 23:09
A Change of Seasons (Portnoy) 23:09
Side 2 - 20:54
Don't Look Past Me (Moore) 6:23 - February 1990, with overdubs recorded in 1999 for this CD.
To Live Forever '91 (Petrucci) 4:26 - May 1991
To Live Forever '94 (Petrucci, Moore) 4:55 - Summer 1994
Eve (Instrumental) 5:10 - Summer 1994

If you want to keep the chronology, you could just put ACOS on Side 2, and put the earlier B-Sides on Side 1.

I'd say, save the FII B-sides for another LP:
Side 1 - 19:01
Raise the Knife (Portnoy) 11:35 - March 1996
Where Are You Now? (Petrucci) 7:26 - March 1996
Side 2 - 17:18
The Way it Used to Be (LaBrie) 7:47 - July 1996
Cover My Eyes (Petrucci) 3:21 - January 1997
Speak to Me (LaBrie) 6:10 - February 1997

Or maybe, make FII a triple vinyl by adding those B-Sides above? Or just release "A Change Of Seasons" with the above for a double-vinyl album of non-album tracks!

-Marc.

Cedar redaC

I'd get it. They should probably do a proper remix and remaster of the songs though.

Yes, they should be shipping 2/19/13 so that is an error. Not sure the deal since I do not have access to brookvale records info

SystematicThought

 :lol
Well, the tracking info should be fun to watch. It said that the USPS is going to be picking something up.

Weymolith

They may have just printed up all the shipping labels today in advance of the release.

EnjoyTheRide

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have confirmed with the pressing plant that 1-500 will in fact be the red/gold swirl variant and the black will be 501-2000

Also- As of now, 398 orders have been placed so these should be sold out likely by the end of the weekend.

I will update once we have more details about when they will be shipping

The Letter M

I wonder how many of the 398 orders were because of the post here on DTF? Also, the DT twitter account, and the DT website, both updated about this vinyl, so I'm sure in a day or two, they WILL be sold out. Pretty quick! And now I don't feel so bad about shelling out what little money I have for this sure-to-be-a-fine-collectible item!
