Wicked show. As it turns out I essentially got to keep my same seats. Row BB seats 101/102. BUT the people in the row we were in didn't show up, so we scooted towards the center aisle :D

It was really empty. And not only that, almost nobody wanted to stand. WTF was that shit? This is not a classical show dammit. This is a rock concert. Despite my efforts, nobody else wanted to stand up. You could tell the band wasn't excited by US

Oh, and did anyone else see a bunch of older people who looked VERY out of place?

It was indeed a wicked show. I sat on the upper level and rose from my seat when the band came on, but quickly got told sit down again by serurity and after that I stayed seated.

Right now I'm sitting in philadelphia airport uploading some vids and quess who I saw passing by in a hurry? Mike Mangini!   :)

Not sure, but I would be surprised if they were family or close friends of the band, considering that it was the east coast.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Arrived at 4pm.  Went to the box office for the exchange.  To my surprise, they gave me sixth row in front of Myung.

Tailgating started around 4:30.

Crimson Projeckt was more than expected.  Will see them again.

DT set was awesome as usual.  A few empty seats near me; stood the entire time; met some old timers; met some first concert go'ers; sat next to a dude from Italy; security was present but lax.

OsMosis2259

Great show. The concert did feel like we were watching a movie with everyone sitting down but it was overall an awesome show and the venue was beautiful. We had a lot of empty seats next to us and I went with two buddies that never really heard DT and they had a good time as well  :tup

OK, so concert goers have to be young people that stand the whole time? B.S. I'm old, I sit, I love DT and my money is just as good. Now maybe you'd be old enough to sit too if you saw The Who, LED Zepelin, Black Sabbath, Yes and guys like that 35-40 years ago like I did. So anyways THAT IS THE SHIT.  BTW, I did notice some "whipper snappers" standing there looking VERY out of place.

Highlights from the Meet and Greet:

I asked JP when his signature guitar picks are coming out (like a nerd), and he told me that they were delayed because he wasn't happy with the design. He then said, "Wait a minute...", stood up, reached into his pocket, and pulled out one of his prototype Dunlop picks and said, "You can keep this." Highlight of my night, for sure.

I asked MM when he was going to release a drum instructional DVD, and he said, "This Fall!"

I told the Pirate that I drove my forklift here all the way from PA, and I got great gas mileage. He said, "What I tell ya?" and gave me a fist pump.  :yarr

Oh, and the concert was pretty good too.  ;)

Rkeister

oh yes, the m&g

I asked petrucci what his 1 rep max is, he said he can't do anything risky like that since he lifts alone. I asked about a second solo album, he said there is one in the works.

None of my other conversations were worth noting just the usual, complimenting MM on his drum solo last tour, etc.

I did get a pick from petrucci at the end of the show. :)

Joep

Nice m&g posts.

There was a wrestling match over a JP pick in front of me, section FF.

DTFan0789

I must say, James was ON FIRE last night. He's in a really good place vocally right now.

He dedicated The Spirit Carries On to the victims in Aurorado, Colorado. I almost got choked up.

Thx. It was one of those songs I had hoped they would play, when started planing my trip. I had also hoped for In the name of god, but I guess that one will have to wait for some other time. Instead I got to see/hear titl, lnf, tlf, metropolis & paradigm shift + a fantastic JP/JR  solo. It was totally worth all the money  :metal

DT shows are usually worth any hell, hate or discontent you may or may not experience in the time leading up to the show.

By old, I meant somewhere in the vicinity of 60's/70's....

And this is the first DT show I've ever been to that everyone sat. It was weird.

Anyone at the M&G find out why the show was moved? I'm very interested to know...

JoiseyDTLovah

That was, hands down, the best DT show I have ever seen. The venue was quite nice, and the mix near perfect. You could hear each band member quite nicely.

I was able to scoot up to front row center since there were quite a few empty seats.

As for the crowd, I have to think that most folks there were comped tix by the casino. It was clear that some of them had no clue what DT was. This was confirmed as I was walking to get a beer during TDEN . I overheard some Angela Lansbury type saying to an usher......"This isn't Donnie and Marie"  No shit.
As for the standing, I love to stand but refuse to do so if those behind me are not standing.  That guy paid money to see DT, not my fat head blocking DT.

Rkeister

yeah, i didn't stand only as a courtesy to those behind me.

This is my first time seeing TDEN with Mangini.

Are they really using Portnoy backing tracks? The quality isn't good enough to tell for sure if that's him or someone else redoing them on the backing tracks.

Yeah they used backing tracks.  I was saying before to just not play the songs with Portnoy backing tracks ... I'm not hating on the song but it just kinda looks odd when JP goes up to the mic and pretends that he is doing the vocals. I'm 99% sure that it's Portnoy's vocals from the album.

I can see why they wanted to play TDEN though because they really have fun with it live.

Just read this on the dreamtheater.net board:

"Was really looking forward to seeing Dream Theater at Harrah's in Philadelphia last night.. But when we got there we were told the show was moved to Caesars in Atlantic City...As I was given absolutely no notice of venue/city change for the show I now have to fight with Ticketmaster for a refund.. There were at least 40 others that did not know of the venue/city change either...Pissed does not describe how I feel today.."

I knew this would happen.  :-\

And while the venue was silently changed, there is still NO official word from the band. Hell, they didn't even mention it on stage, apologizing. I know Scotty said the band was aware, but why haven't they said anything? I think it still needs to be addressed.

DTFan0789

I actually did ask the VIP Nation host about the venue change while I was there, but he said that he didn't even know why it happened. I ALMOST asked John Petrucci, but I thought it might have been awkward, so I just started rambling on about Dunlop Jazz III picks instead.

Joep

I spoke with the Box Office rep (runs the Harrah's venue as well).  She tap danced around the issue then gave me the 6th row seats and sent me on.  YES, I did think of our 'brothers', but...............

40+ were shafted.  Wow, that coulda been me.  I was therefore thankful for this website and the knowledge passed from DT peer to DT peer.

Many, many YouTube links for the gig.  Reliving it, thanking them and, by the way.... ahh yeah.  Until next time.

Look, I know this isn't going to go over well, but you can be damn sure that this sh*t would NOT have happened with MP in the band!

Well, this kind of problem happened while MP was in the band! It's not band's fault. Though they should have mentioned it but well.

Because MP was always very pro-active with getting important information out to the fans. And I said the same thing a long while back FWIW. DT completely dropped the ball on this one. And for the record I'm not claiming that MP should be in the band or anything, but every person has pros and cons, and one of MPs pros was always getting critical info out there as best as he could.

Adami

You do realize that DT has management for stuff like that, right? I assume they're the ones who dropped the ball.
www. fanticide.bandcamp . com

Nick

You do realize what pro-active means, right? Yes, DT management dropped the ball, but if MP was still in the band I think he would have at very least lit a fire under their ass when this came up. Direct blame can be addressed to whomever, but at the end of the day DT could have certainly done more.
