even though i said its not to do with the actual music or how they play them live

Metropolis pt.-1

They all contain a part with a spotlight on one of the members of the band?

Mbarak

A music video was released for each song.

very close

hacko

I'm pretty sure TDEN didn't have a video, unless you call the animation played on the concerts a video.

Another informed guess:

They've all been followed by a keyboard/piano solo on live performances:
TTT by a DS solo on 5yrs in a livetime
Another Day by a JR solo in Live Scenes from NY
TDEN by a JR solo in Chaos in Motion

John94

Didn't TDEN have the in-studio footage.

Metropolis pt.-1

They all contain a part where the light show imitates what someone is playing?

namgalsipsclar

All three have on screen animations during a live show?

Yep that's what I meant but it seems it's far from the answer. Will sit in for the next question.

correct, my good man

hacko

Ok let's see another one, featuring a song from the previous one:

Another Day
Innocence Faded
Hollow Years

LieLowTheWantedMan

olliemedsy

another day is track 2 of its album
innocence faded is track 3 of its album
and hollow years is track 4 off its album

so the track numbers increase by 1

LieLowTheWantedMan

They're all the first ballads on their respective album?

EDIT: Actually no, wouldn't call IF a ballad.

hacko

Metropolis pt.-1

Hollow years: 4th on Budokan
Another day: 5th on Live at the Marquee
Innocence faded: 6th on Score

Jaffa

Their track numbers match their album numbers in chronological order.  Another Day is track 2 of their second studio album, IF is track 3 of their third studio album, Hollow Years is track 4 of their fourth.

I was going to do this exact one myself, except with A Fortune In Lies instead of Innocence Faded.

hacko

Jaffa's right!

I originally thought of doing 6DOIT - ITNOG - 8VARIUM  but thought it would either be too easy or too out of left field since technically 6DOIT is track 1 on disc 2 instead of track 6. Think you would've gotten that?

Excellent.  Except you stole my idea.   :lol

EDIT: Well, I think I would have.  True, SDOIT would be sort of debatable, but those three albums are notable for having the same number of songs as their album number, so it would have stood out like a sore thumb to me.  I think you made the right choice going with 2-3-4.  Might have taken a while for anybody to get it if I hadn't been planning the exact same thing.  :P

Umm...

Take the Time
Caught in a Web
Breaking All Illusions

hacko

Ok once again to test the waters:

All three have the word LIFE on the lyrics.

Jaffa

Nope.

Well, yep, but not what I had in mind.

Mbarak

Lyrics credited to more than one band member (TTT credited to Dream Theater)

Mbarak got it.  Very good (or it was just easy, not sure).

Mbarak

NO, very hard, but I'm just that smart...I think (Edit: I noticed you deleted the last part haha)

Alright, here it goes:

The Spirit Carries On
Speak to Me
The Answer Lies Within

It seems that this thread has died away. I partially blame Jamesman  :P

Well I just got home so I'm ready to try with this one:

They all have Pink Floyd influences/references ?

Mbarak

I'm not a big Pink Floyd fan so I wouldn't know. Has nothing to do with how they sound.

Mbarak

I think this one is true, but not what I'm going for

fibreoptix

They've all been augmented someway for a live DVD?

(Spirit: Ext. intro and gospel choir. Speak: Real drums all the way through. Answer: Score orchestra.)

Alright, here it goes:

The Spirit Carries On
Speak to Me
The Answer Lies Within

All of them were played in the Octavarium tour?

Mbarak

No, it has nothing to do with any live performances.
