I feel it's a pretty innovative song, and I feel it's very likely to be the most controversial song on the album, so I decided to create this thread.

Personally it was a very pleasant surprise to me, this song is different than I had expected after hearing what it is about - I expected something more like Wither or something, and... wow. This song is really heavy and dramatic, and I find it very powerful. I really like the small electronic experiments (like in the intro), and the screamed part of the chorus is just AMAZING.

I'm not yet sure if it's the favourite on the album for me, but it's definitely very high.

NecessaryPain

I am of the opinion that ADTOE would have held up as a stronger album WITHOUT BMU,BMD. There would still be 70 minutes of otherwise brilliant music left on the album. 8 tracks is plenty.

But it's still a decent song, all things considered.

BlobVanDam

I voted for good, solid song. I think it's a great song, but not quite good enough to vote for the top option. I think it's going to end up an underrated track from the album.

Imho, this song is a joke considering the other excellent stuff on the album. I too wouldn't have mind not having had this song on the album.

Zydar

It's a good and solid song. It would be a natural choice as a single with its catchy chorus and modern attributes.

Nihil-Morari

Why is it considered bad actually? To me it's more outstanding than say, OTBOA.

Together with Bridges.. Far from heaven, and Beneath The Surface, it's the only song that has stuck with me since the first time I heard it. Oh, and the outro is very, very good.

Bedwetting Cosmonaut

It's a pretty cool song.

Not the best on the album, but certainly not the worst either.

Liberation

I admit I'm quite surprised by the results this far... after what I'd read, I expected far more polarised results.

Infinite Cactus

It's one of 3 favorites off of an excellent album.

TAC

This album did not need this song. It's a pimple on an otherwise beautiful face.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

Hmm, strange, as I said, it's one of the only songs on the album that has its own 'face'.

Algo Fonix

I think it's the weakest track on the album, but by no means is it a bad song.

As a maybe nugget note,  did you noticed that in the booklet the lyrics have some "i"s and "L"s bold? I wonder if that denote some binary code with a hidden message or maybe morse code

I can't see that, sorry.

Are you sure it's not Is and Ws that are bolded? :neverusethis:
Sounds interesting. I only have the artwork, and not the text, so I haven't seen that yet. Is it only those two letters? It might just be the font itself?

I really liked this song.  I don't see anything wrong with it.  It's gotta be their best short poppyish song they've written since before Scenes.  I thought it was great.  Sounded fresh and natural.

DarkLord_Lalinc

I voted Excellent and fresh. I just love it.

tri.ad

Good and solid. It can't live up to the best songs on the album, but it's definitely a cool song. The first part of the chorus is really great, the second... not as much, but still OK.

KevShmev

I was iffy on it at first, but I enjoy it a lot now.  Not a favorite, but a solid tune.  And their best Track 2 since Blind Faith.

Me too. I enjoy the lyrics, the chorus is catchy, and James is absolutely on fire. Just a great song all around.

Really? i have the special edition and it does have son "i"'s and "L" bolded kind of randomly. Now, i'm checking with the regular album edition and it does not have it (i bought both edition). Interesting, it doesn't look like a printing error at all.

I'll post pictures of it as soon as i get a good camera for it cause my phone camera doesn't capture it well

Bertielee

Think it's a good rocker, JLB is on form, creepy atmosphere from JR BUT I don't like the solo at all. I think it's out of place there.

AngelBack

I've given a sincere attempt to dislike this song, but I can't.  JLB's vocals on the chorus have rendered me bitchified.

legenden1

Seems like this song will get the same unbelievably unfair treatment like "You not me", I love both songs. I definitely rank this higher than OTBOA which is the albums weakest track IMO, I´ll go with the good solid option.

ResultsMayVary

It's excellent and fresh. It happens to be my least favorite song on the album, but it still deserves an 8.5/10 ranking from me. The other songs are just better overall, even though I love this song.

John94

Better than I expected. I like the chorus melody too. It is something new and fresh I guess.

How the hell did James do the screams? I love the little choir/cinematic sounds after the "Build me up."

BFRedrocks

This song is definitely one of my favorites on the CD...the chorus is very catchy and the chorus lyrics are extremely poignant based on some life crap I've been going through.  All in all I think it's a great song.

I have to admit though that when I first heard it, and even still, it sounds very much like this song could have been on Static Impulse as a JLB solo piece (it just has that JLB solo project "sound").

TheOutlawXanadu

I think it's a really good song, but it shouldn't have been on the album. Does that make sense?

IdoSC

Love it! Finally DT write a JLB-solo-project-like song!

Just the way he did them in In the Name of God, Learning to Live, Octavarium, some of his solo stuff, and dozens of songs live - using his throat.
