Sounds like a track left of Elements Of Persuasion. Not that that's a bad thing, but this song is totally solo James.

Yes, I agree to some extent, but I find the solo to be very DT.

I was iffy on it at first, but I enjoy it a lot now.  Not a favorite, but a solid tune.  And their best Track 2 since Blind Faith.

of course. I'm speaking of the overall feel of the song.

7StringedBeast

I'm changing my mind about this song.

After my third listen I decided I love this fuckin' song.  It's so badass.

Haha, seems reasonable that (according to the lyric book) James had a hand in contributing to the music to this one.

I voted for a good solid song. The chorus is incredibly infectious... probably the most so since Solitary Shell. Yes, I'm serious.

Also major props for the outro. I totally wasn't expecting that when it started up.

predator13

as people have said, definitely some huge JLB solo album feel, which isn't bad, but not necessarily what I want to get out of DT...however, I think the song is a fun throw-in to the album and as people have said, the chorus is catchy

Nekov

I think overall it's an OK song. I don't like the chorus but the rest I find entertaining

Bold = YES!

Good, solid song. My rating of it from my post in the main thread:

Build Me Up, Break Me Up

This one is a little more difficult to give a review on. Although the chorus is one of the catchiest I have heard by the band, the rest of the song feels very bland to me. Boring lead riff, simple verses, weak instrumental section. Now, I don't hate the song. But I feel it's one if not the weakest on the album. The use of the electronic drums was fairly interesting though and I do enjoy that it leads into Lost not Forgotten.
6/10

I put it as the worst on the album which means it's a good, solid song.

Hal Incandenza

I love it, and it's becoming my favorite song on the album, though I'm probably overrating it a bit because I'm so glad it exists.  It has a much stronger groove than DT has generally had recently, which is a nice change.  There's some fun bass play, and I flat out love Jordan on this song.  I love the subtle background work, I dig the (short) solo pretty well, and his simple outro is fun and a nice palate cleanser.  It's different than the usual.

Love it! Finally DT write a JLB-solo-project-like song!
I thought the same exact thing when I heard it. To be honest, a lot of the songs on this album have an "Elements of Persuasion" vibe to it. (which is good because that album rocks)

How the hell did James do the screams?
Just the way he did them in In the Name of God, Learning to Live, Octavarium, some of his solo stuff, and dozens of songs live - using his throat.

My first thought was that it sounded right at home with James' solo work, the way James sings it with the distortion on his vocals etc. Personally my weak point on the album, and as stated already could of been left out. Not terrible though :)

pogoowner

It's in contention to be my favorite song on the album.

ariich

I really like it. Not one of the best on the album, but solid and definitely adds something to the album. :tup

senecadawg2

I voted "Its OK..."

I find it to be one of the less interesting songs on the album. Yet it is definitely a fun one to listen too, and the chorus is probably one of the biggest hooks from the album (I've had it stuck in my head all day!). Probably my least favorite though.

RG93

Definitely good, solid song, but it would fit better on TOT or BC&SL. In fact, were it on BC&SL, it would move the album's ranking higher

That's precisely why I'm not really digging this song...

Tunnel Vision

I really enjoy this track.

It did remind me of JLB's solo catalog, but it clearly sounds like DT as well. I think the instrumental section is VERY good and the part where the word "Savior" is echoed gives me chills.

Riceball

As I originally said in the "Official" pre-US release thread, I rate this as the best 'single' they've written to date; I can see it going along way. Its both catchy, proggy, heavy and has a pretty radio-friendly vibe to it - awesome.

theseoafs

I dig the groove. It reminds me a lot of You Or Me (which is a good thing in my book; had it reminded me of You Not Me, it wouldn't be such a good thing). Weakest track on the album, but not a bad song at all. I voted for the second option, the "good and solid" one.

dongringo

I rated it Excellent and Fresh, but it didn't start out that way for me, it had to grow into it.

SlitherX

The outro to this song is absolutely epic. get chills everytime I listen to it.

Other than that its good. Definitely better than AROP, or CM.

Pantherize

When I popped the cd into my player this song made me smile from ear to ear and have that feeling I had when I first listened to SFAM and I knew that they were "back".  :metal

AngelBack

On my 20th or so listen, damn chorus is like hitting a crack pipe...ready for some of you to admit this song is in no way inferior to the rest of the album, in fact, it completes the album by being the catchy, fun, guilty pleasure sort of song.

PreHilbert

I LOVE the second verse when the keyboards enter and give a completely different feeling... also the groove of the second verse is slightly different, more tense... very nice riffs too...
It def sounds like a JLB solo song, only much craftier and smarter... the only one from ELP I like more is Crucify, because of the extremely high a-la-awake vocals.

Lowdz

Voted the top option. Great song like all of them for me.
James rocks it but the keys make it for me. Sounds quite Awake-y to me without sounding like anything on Awake.

DarkLord_Lalinc

Why are people comparing Build Me Up, Break Me Down with You not Me? Build Me Up is a great song, You not Me isn't. Build Me Up has mainstream appeal, You not Me doesn't have any appeal.

Tick

I find Jordan's use of atmospheric keys on this album refreshingly original. This song for example has those spooky sounding keys at the end reminiscent of a Marilyn Manson song.

Xanthul

To me it sounds like Linkin Park (for example, Don't Stay has a similar beginning) with a DT chorus. I chose "meh".

JPX

I will definely be deleting BMUBMD down from my iTunes library soon. It's super bland and I don't see a reason to listen to it again in a very long time.
