Now that the album is officially out for everyone, it's time to populate this realm with threads about ADTOE.

Well? Which song is your favorite?

I've allowed people to change their votes, so don't be afraid of voting because you can't change later.

I've gone with "Outcry" as my early favorite. I really love the chorus and the instrumental section.

I feel comfortable saying it's Breaking All Illusions. My favorite DT song since Octavarium.

1 - Breaking All Illusions w/ Far From Heaven (I refuse to listen to them separately )
2 - Bridges In The Sky
3 - Outcry / Beneath The Surface
4 - This Is The Life
5 - On The Backs of Angels
6 - Lost Not Forgotten
7 - BMU, BMD

ResultsMayVary

While every song is fantastic and it was a VERY difficult decision to pick a single song that I liked the most, I went with Breaking All Illusions. The best chorus in years plus Myung lyrics plus generally amazing performances from everyone.

Rankings thus far (after 10+ listens):

Breaking All Illusions
Bridges In The Sky
Beneath The Surface
Outcry
Lost Not Forgotten
This Is The Life
On The Backs of Angels
Far From Heaven
Build Me Up, Break Me Down

And even though BMU, BMD is at the bottom, I still give it an 8.5/10. Fantastic head-banging type song. Really enjoyed JLB's vocals and JP's guitar playing on that song.

OsMosis2259

Breaking All Illusions #1 for me

I can't decide #2 though

darkshot

I really didn't want to say Breaking All Illusions was my favorite since most people are going to say that, but damn, I couldn't find a reason not to.  I think Bridges in the Sky or Lost Not Forgotten are a close second, and the rest aren't far behind.  It would be very difficult for me to rank them at this point.

So I still say Breaking All Illusions because I have the most fun listening to it.  I really enjoy the instrumental sections especially the jazzy parts, but the vocals are fantastic too, hell just the whole damn song is great to listen to, imo.

I haven't decided yet, but it's a toss-up between Bridges In The Sky and Breaking All Illusions.

Cranky

I feel as though it's obvious that Breaking All Illusions is going to win by a landslide...

With that being said, I voted Bridges in The Sky.
It's a top 10 DT song for me, maybe even top 5.

Also, I don't understand why Build Me Up, Break Me Down is getting so many dislikes by the fans... It's a bad-ass-balls-to-the-wall metal track!!   :metal

Really close between OTBOA and BTS...I think I'm going with the latter for now.

Zydar

At the moment I'll put Breaking All Illusions at #1, with some competition from Bridges In The Sky.

elizaalltiedup

It's SO HARD for me to decide between BITS, BTS, and TITL. I think I'll go with TITL, it just came on and I'm suddenly flooded with a surge of love for the song.  :heart

sguerrero

Breaking All Illusions, Lost Not Forgotten and Outcry are my favourites! These are trully masterpieces, Mangini's drumming on LNF is awesome! And the melodies are the best since Octavarium in my opinion.

edu

Bridges in the Sky, and then Breaking All Illusions

sagar_k

More or less tied between BITS & BAI, but went with BAI

Nimitzion

Outcry man. Its a close call though between that and BAI?

I think it won since its the only song in the album you can't abbreviate and have to trouble yourself with typing the whole damn name  :tup

smerfak

At the moment Breaking All Illusions followed by Bridges in the Sky.

sfam2112

Beneath The Surface followed by Bridges in The Sky

Elite

Bridges in the Sky.

God, I love this track.

TAC

I'm going with Breaking All Illusions.

It's spots 2-4 that get tough.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

Bill Carson

Yeah has to be Breaking All illusions but......an honerable mention needs to go to Beneath the Surface - how beautiful is that !!!

Mladen

Bridges in the Sky, although Beneath the surface and Breaking all illusions are very close.

I like all these threads with ''rank the album'' or ''rate the songs'', but I think the album will take a couple more days till I'm completely confident about saying something. Still, I'm very sure these are my favorite songs on the album.

Liberation

Decided for Outcry. It's a great song overall, and I absolutely love the piano at the end of the instrumental section.

However, two shorter songs are very close behind... Build Me Up, Break Me Down - it's just so powerful and dramatic, and This Is The Life - it's just incredibly beautiful. Also, I'm starting to love Beneath The Surface.

And now, controversial opinion time: Breaking All Illusions is my least favourite this far. It has some amazing moments, but the song just feels... chaotic and incoherent to me.

Kotowboy

Is anyone else going straight to track 2 when listening to the album ?

Liberation

Kotowboy

Because the single has been out for ages?

Liberation

That's why listening to a new song only 2-3 times before the album is released is a good idea.

krands85

Breaking All Illusions. On it's way to becoming a top 5 song for me, I love everything about it.

After the first few listens of the album, it was between BAI and BITS, but BAI has taken top spot quite comfortably now.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Infinite Cactus

Lost Not Forgotten. While I like the album tremendously, this was the first song listening to that instead of just enjoying it, I actually had to smile throughout the whole song.

Guitalguy

Even if BAI, LNF and BITS, all those heavy epic tunes, are incredibly awesome, I think the song that has made the greatest impression on me so far is Far From Heaven. This is truly a beautiful peace of music, and JRs mellow piano combined with JLB at his most emotional gets it from me. Also loving the violins. The ending of Breaking All Illusions also concludes the musical theme very, very beautifully.

But apart from that, I'd say Bridges In The Sky, Outcry of Breaking All Illusions. Perhaps Outcry.

The Letter M

I know it's awfully cliche of me as a prog-fan to like the longest track/song on the album, but it's definitely "Breaking All Illusions". It's got everything I love about the band, as well as bits and pieces of "Learning To Live", "In The Presence Of Enemies" and "Octavarium" (stylistically speaking, there are parts that remind me of those songs), all great epics. It's like the band took what made some of their best epics and mashed it all into one 12 minute masterpiece! Also, LOVE the reprise of the FFH theme at the end!
