Do you like the Shaman's voice?

Yes
No

Pinga

I think it works well within the context of the song, and they made the right decision of not putting it in the middle or anywhere else besides the intro and outro.

skydivingninja

First time I heard it I laughed uncontrollably.  Now its just kinda there.  Doesn't detract from the song in any way, and if it were to be played live it would work really well as part of the buildup to the song.

OsMosis2259

I'm not a huge fan of the voice but it really doesn't bother me. I'd take it over "DAY AFTER DAY RORORO"

I'm thinking it'd be a pretty cool opening song. When the riff enters it could be so epic live.

Zydar

It's OK. I don't hate it or love it.

The first time I heard it I thought 'Wow, this is going to be controversial on the forums'.

BlackInk

I.. eh.. it's different and a pretty cool idea. I put "yes" because I guess I like more than I don't.... duh....

indalo

First it was a bit strange to me, but now I like it. I don't love it anyway but it's not horrible, so I vote Yes

Elite

I didn't know about Bridges in the Sky being the original title of the album, but it would make sense considering the artwork. Could it be the artwork was drawn before the name was changed? The rope snapping was then inserted later to coincide with the new album title. Possible?

On topic; Yes, I do like the Shaman's Voice, I think it fits the song very well as a nice buildup to what's to come.

Cranky

I love it, DT has never done an intro like this so it feels very fresh. My only problem is that when I heard the morte et dabo sample, it kind of turned me off, because it has been used in songs by the bands mentioned, and also a song called Morte Et Dabo by Asking Alexandria.. I wish they would have used a different sample for that part.

The song is most likely my favourite off the album, though.

BlackInk

Also I forgot to mention that while the shaman voice is fine but not something absolutely mindblowing I still consider Bridges In the Sky to have what probably is my favorite Dream Theater intro of all time, because of THAT AWESOME GREGORIAN CHOIR!

Vajra

When I first heard it, I felt a lot of feelings at once. I was surprised as hell, I was confused, I thought it was funny, and I also thought it was fucking awesome. Now that the initial feelings have worn off, all I'm left with is the feeling of thinking it's still fucking awesome.  :metal It's a very unique and fresh intro, so I'm loving it.

QuoteThe first time I heard it I thought 'Wow, this is going to be controversial on the forums'.

Same here lol.

Implode

There's nothing wrong with it. I feel it goes with the song well. The only thing that's gets me is the Gregorian chant section. Don't get me wrong, it's absolutely beautiful, but thematically it seems so out of place.

senecadawg2

I don't mind it. I also don't especially like it.

It's a song about a shaman, so his voice is hardly out of place. It sets the scene nicely for me and is a fun thing too. My kids thought it wqas hilarious and spent the next 20 mins trying to do it.

Jaffa

I like it in the intro, but don't particularly like it in the outro.  It's hard to explain why, but in the outro, I feel like it's interrupting the flow of the album.

I love it.  On first listen I thought it was a didgeridoo.   :lol
I wish they had used a didgeridoo

I think that the outro completes the atmosphere of the song, IMO.

ResultsMayVary

Its fucking awesome and it adds another awesome element to the song.

BlackInk

No one here picking up that JM is doing the throat singing?

KISS 76

I like it... The only thing I don't like is the generic bird squawk that has been used so much. Every time I hear it it reminds me of My Name is Earl...

Just like the screamed part of the chorus in Build Me Up, Break Me Down, it is something completely new and I really love it.
Uugugugh! I cannot find this famed screaming part in BMU,BMD no matter how hard I listen? What should I be listening for? When? Or am I being completely oblivious?

Anyway, I don't really like it. I typically don't like things like that, though, so it's nothing to be unexpected from me.

Yes actually, in the same interview that the name was mentioned they also said this was true.

Progmetty

I love it, I think it's gonna have a funny story behind it. It could be JR playing with MorphWiz after recording JLB's reaction to a large soda!

It's an Omnisphere patch.

Hmmm...at first,I thought I was listening to an epic belching contest :lol...but after several listens,it's really grown on me.I like it.

Shaman or no Shaman, anyone notice how the intro (and the whole song, in fact) is exactly like Take The Time. I'll break it down structurally:
