Do you like the Shaman's voice?

Yes
No

Knguro

This thread us just to clarify the topic once and for all. I personally like it, is original, strong and creates a perfect atmosphere with the song. What are your thoughts?

Sketchy

It's epic and completely not what I'd expected to hear on a DT album...

And I love it. It has an intense feeling to it, and so... Ethereal? Whatever. It's brilliant.

Edan the Man

I thought it was a bit weird at first, and... well I still think it's weird now, but I kinda like it. I find it amusing how ridiculously some people are overreacting to it :lol

Edit: Oh by the way, isn't all ADToE discussion supposed to stay in the stickied thread until official release? Inb4lock?

Nihil-Morari

It's weird that it's the third time that that Morte et Dabo is being used in prog rock. After Dungeon of the Deep by the Flower Kings, and a track from a side project by JLB (I forgot wich one) and now DT.

Not that that says anything, just. Well, there are more epic choir pieces.

wolfking

I love it.  On first listen I thought it was a didgeridoo.   :lol

tri.ad

Yes, I do like it. Quite a lot, actually.

3xodus

Loved it.. felt like the opening score for an epic movie or something... like Avatar.

Aaaah, that's where I recognise that choir from.

Oh and don't forget the TFK Last Minute on Earth intro man at 1:29

No, I don't like the Shaman's voice.  But I love the song.

King Postwhore

Love it, though my wife said, How many times are you going to play this. :lol  She should know better. :lol
"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'." - Bon Newhart.

DeanTheater

I loved it. And the outro was just amazing.   :hefdaddy

there is so much in this and many of the songs on the album.  It needs many many listens without distraction

Dynia

m0hawk

That outro is colossal! I'd rather not them blow their metal load as the first song of the gig.

The Silent Cody

I love it, the moment in which the shaman's voice apperaing in the end is so well connected with the rest of the outro that is so brilliant :)

RuRoRul

I'm surprised Yes is winning by so much. I don't hate it, and I was quite glad when I heard it as it wasn't as bad as some people had made out. But I can't pretend my first thought was "I love that voice", it was more "That voice isn't that bad, so it won't ruin the song" and any liking for it after that came only because it was a great DT song and I really wanted to give it a chance.

Liberation

Just like the screamed part of the chorus in Build Me Up, Break Me Down, it is something completely new and I really love it.

Plasmastrike

It immdiately reminded me of the intro in "Last Minute On Earth" by The Flower Kings.

They shortened the throat-singing sample since it's live, but you get the idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReB2D2V-sM8

I don't particularly like it, but I think it adds some cool character to the songs.

It uses the same sample. But man am I glad that they finally take the time again to make an intro worthy to an epic song.

TL

I like that they included things on the record, such as the Shaman's voice, that were very outside the box for them. The voice itself I've gotten used to, though I'll admit that I actually laughed the first time I heard it.

Edan the Man

On a related note, I wish they had kept the song as The Shaman's Trance, and went with Bridges in the Sky as the album name as originally planned.

gabeh1018

everytime I hear it I want to start eating curly fries

Zook

At first it was weird and unnecessary to me, but over time I got used to it, and it doesn't bother me anymore. Besides, it only happens four times in the whole song anyway.

Definitely. As it is, I keep thinking of the song as The Shaman's Trance and have to correct myself all the time. Just seems to be the more appropriate title, imo.

yes, and I didn't know about that album title. It would've been way better, yes.

Heretic

Gives the song an amazing atmosphere, and fits very well. After the Gregorian choir part or whatever, the throat singing that follows is awesome.

Millais

still not completely sure on the "bawaaaaaaaah" sounds, but the Gregorian choir, after 10 listens, just gets better and better each time. awesome  :tup

LieLowTheWantedMan

Shaman, no but he doesn't lower the songs quality. The choir is awesome though.

ddtonfire

Acideus

I thought it sounded silly and out of place at first. It's grown on me though.

Chrissalix

BBBBBBBBBBBBWWWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

It's daft, but it adds to the vibe.

Metabog

I kind of imagine the guys showing up in some Mongolian guy's tent in the middle of the night and inviting him to New York to record.

"We don't really like throat singing that much, but we had a song about shamans, so what the fuck."
