Maybe MP should read some of the reviews of the ADMOB stuff on his own site.  The reviews arent all that favorable amongst members.  Very mixed.

All of MP's "little" side projects are more likely to be supported by DT fans.  If he keeps "accidentally" slagging these guys and playing the victim he will lose fans.  Although his many side projects are cool, none of them can achieve any longevity and development if he keeps forming new bands every other month IMO.

I love MP's drumming and all, but he should say NO COMMENT to anything DT related for a while.  However, if the new DT record does very well, then my guess is that he wont be able to keep from saying dumb stuff.

And that's exactly what happened with Charlie. He was totally dependent on DT fans to support him, and especially this site. And he hilariously managed to burn bridges with us.

Regarding the retweet, I'm guessing he would have gotten away with it had the AM EP been a slam dunk.

Yeah, but how he left and that kind of stuff. Also "hilariously managed to burn bridges with us."? I know very little about him.

Wasn't the first DT singer Chris Collins?

Yeah, but that was in Majesty days. Ha. I always refer to Charlie as the first for DT since he's on the first album.

And I don't know very much about the whole deal with him burning bridges either. I remember him posting and then all of sudden not anymore. lol.

MP should probably just refrain from tweeting or reposting anything that's not advertising his new band. He clearly can't be impartial or fair.

His O3 stuff was received with mixed reviews too. He couldn't stand reading the criticism (he posted regularly on this board in that time) and started attacking people here (including me). Well, to put it mildly, he's not exactly Einstein, so he got ripped apart by people here, with the result that he disappeared from this forum (at that point he already opened his own). That whole episode left a bad aftertaste and definitely cut down his most probable fanbase. I continued to occasionally check his forum, and he there pulled several other stunts that drove away the few people that had come over.

You mean what did he do on his own forum?
I won't be able to recall anything specific really, but he started lashing out at his own forum members and implementing some (IIRC) ridiculous forum rules. One I remember being that nobody but him was to mention religion. Which was ridiculous because his O3 album was all about how aliens were the ancient gods and how the world was going to end in 2012 (which he believed in btw).

Oh right, that rings a bell. Then he'd make posts about religion (usually cheap jabs, from what I recall) where nobody else could reply, since it was against the forum rules. Am I remembering that right?

Yup, exactly. It was a bizarre show to watch really. I think he kinda had the idea that it was "his forum", and as such it had to conform to his ideas and opinions. When he saw that people vehemently disagreed about some of his half-baked ideas, he decided to change the forum rules to make it so. He was a bit like Nero overlooking Rome.

What was a real shame was that JustJen, who had put in an enormous amount of time getting the site running (all for free) was plain overruled and openly defied by Charlie when it pleased him.

If I was a public figure I would never speak in public unless it's about the stuff I'm doing right now. IMO Portnoy should shut the fuck up and stick to the band he's on right now. These behaviors fuel nothing but hate.

It also didn't help that he put a post on FB making light of the fact that DT was keeping the name of the drummer secret and doing the documentary. Granted, I thought it pretty obvious that he was joking but others apparently felt otherwise (probably due to the above stuff).

Yup, So did I...   after like 27 tweets about OMFG Adrenalin Mobs is teh bestest evah!"  I was like... "Fuck This" and unfollowed Portnoy.

I have also tried to listen to AM's stuf... yeah , just not feeling the vibe at all tbh.  Sounds pretty rudimentary and well... basic?

Well, it's just straight metal, isn't it? It does not purposedly have the compositional and musical depth and complexity that many love (and many other loathe) which is tipical of the "prog" genre.

Orion1967

Yeah I suppose but even within the confines of 'straight metal' it is pretty weak imho....

duncan3dc

What other bands to people consider 'straight metal'?

People have referred to Godsmack and Distrubed in this thread when comparing Adrenaline Mob to other bands, but I find both these bands' music to have more depth and come across as more interesting than Adrenaline Mob. Which is why at the moment I don't accept the argument that Adrenaline Mob is 'straight metal' and that's why people here aren't interested in it.

I think a big problem is the hype surrounding this release, I don't know about anyone else but I got the impression something great was going to come out. And I was really excited to hear Russell Allen on stuff like this, but as many have said his style on this is just not suited to his voice.

farsight

I dont know, but I think AM fits the southern american heavy metal style more than the modern metal of godsmack. They are pretty similar to Black Label Society (Zakk Wylde's band) or Black Stone Cherry, guitar and vocals driven, simple song structures, shreddy blues scales, les paul, long hair, cowboy boots, torn jeans and lots of booze. I find those bands quite more enjoyable than AM though, particularly Corrosion of Conformity and Down.

BlackInk

Just listened to the EP and it's pretty straight metal to me.

Whatever.

this^ once again, respect for MP has gone down considerably.
I've listened to the new Adrenalin Mob album and i didn't like it, but that's irrelevant and a matter of personal opinion. no matter who you are, you should not be retweeting tweets that just slash former/other bands. Immature & highly unprofessional.

Metabog

I'd hate it for people to think that I'm bashing the album from prejudice, but I really don't think it compares to what he was doing in DT even on the later albums, even with RA's massively godly voice. MP has always been like a figurehead of prog metal, I'd rather see him stick to that. It's very hard to reinvent yourself at such a late stage, especially after a break up like this. He belongs inside a Monster with a bunch of octobans and a giant gong, playing weird poly-rhythms and showing people how it's done and spitting on things. All this stuff that is happening is weird to me.
