So am I the only one that after listening to this teaser, is REALLY happy that they changed the name to Bridges in the Sky rather than The Shaman's Trance?

Considering it's the exact same song either way, and they haven't even shown the chorus yet, how does it make any difference at all?

Because that was a bad title. It does make a difference.

Eh.  It sounds pretty cool to me, I guess.  I'm vaguely and unfairly disappointed, just because this is absolutely nothing like what the title 'Bridges in the Sky' had me exoecting/hoping for. But, oh well.  It does sound like a pretty cool song to me.

(Also, an Aniland thread got pinned.  I can't help but find that amusing.)

I KNOW I flipped shit when I saw it.

ReaPsTA

Underrated part of the teaser - The lyrics are legitimately cool and interesting.

My main point was that he said "after listening to the teaser", implying that somehow this tiny snippet made a difference to his opinion of the name, and second of all, it still makes zero difference to the song itself. The song was finished before they changed the name. A rose by any other name, etc.

I was already disappointed when I saw that it was a snippet. Never in my life have I been impressed or satisfied with a song snippet.

as it is quite obviously a snippet why did you bother to listen then?!

Indeed, mysterious and somewhat abstract instead of 'there's some dude, and his sucking on some pipe'.

Sounds like a SC song but instead of balls to the wall metal, it's more atmospheric metal

So basically what I said two pages ago. :P
:superdude:

GasparXR

Honestly, it mostly reminds me of SC & BCSL material, as opposed to OTBOA which reminded me of both old and new. It sounds good though, and it is highly likely that the song will kick major ass.

YtseCullen

Their are definitely many elements in the teaser I like, first of all it sounded like some of the Stuff off of Awake to me, which I really like, second is JR's keyboard sounds in this are phenomenal, almost Kevin Moore like, 3rd of all is Jame's sounds really good, 4th of all is Mangini's playing sounds really tasteful to me, and 5th of all the lyrics sound really intriguing and interesting. Can't wait to hear the full song  :metal

FretMuppet

BlackInk

Yes! Ha!

Also, if this isn't the heaviest song on the album, I can't wait for Lost Not Forgotten.

The Silent Cody

Wow, I was not expexting Bridges IN The Sky to be so heavy one, very nice indeed :) Love 7 string Petrucci sound, it's sounds like spaghetti :) Also James sounds amazing, and riff has very odd measure :)

I can't not listen to it.

FsF

Sounds very Systematic Chaos, as opposed to earlier stuff like Gaspar suggested, but enjoyable given its only a wee snippet.

Just listened to it for the first time.  I really really like what I hear.  The whole vibe seems to be a lot less METUHL, and much more of a DT doing metal sound (that probably makes no sense to anyone hahaha).  Anyways, I really like the vibe that this song was putting out.  The riffs sounded really cool.  I'm excited for this new album, I feel like its going to be really strong.

Dynia

I can hear some resemblance between the vocal melodies in this snippet to those in Under a Glass Moon. They sound pretty similiar to me, despite the fact BitS feels much more "evil" than UAGM.

The Silent Cody

and I can hear a lot of The Ministry Of The Lost Souls in it ;)

jonny108

It feels like a mish mash of SC and Awake.  Love the vox on this and the keys!

lol, at least you are honest.

yeshaberto

I like it.  Not blown away, but excited

LieLowTheWantedMan

It's gonna be amazing. I can feel it.

Metropolis pt.-1

Sounds pretty damn :metal to me. I'm finding it funny how many different comparisons people are coming up with, though. Can't we just say "yeap, it sounds like Dream Theater"

olliemedsy

i probably am, but am i seriously the only one who is remind of acos?

Lowdz

I hate 7 strings in the lower register. ugh.

Need to listen a few more times now the kids have gone to bed.

farsight

I like it, its a more natural TDEN or ANTR without pretentious darkness.

So no wanking on OTBoA and no wanking on BitS's one minute snippet. WTF is going on with DT?

The Presence of Frenemies

In the scope of DT eras, this sounds more like mid-DT to me. SDOIT/TOT-type of stuff.

TL

It sounds like a blend of old and newer DT. The guitar tone reminds me a bit of Awake. It almost feels like The Glass Prison meets The Mirror/Lie.

Harpejji

I enjoyed On the Back of Angels more. I hope the entire song is much better than the teaser. I didn't got teased at all  :P

Jamariquay

The riff is whatever. It won't really make or break my enjoyment of the song, I just hope the overall structure is interesting. It'd be a neat idea if every song on this album mirrored the structure of an earlier song, like with OtBoA and Pull Me Under.

*Tries to picture the riff in BITS fitting into a song with the same structure as, say, Metropolis....*

....Well, OK. That idea would get old pretty quick. Still.

FiberglassMoon

Teasers are always so unfulfilling.  The whole 7 string thing gives it the same feel I got from heavy stuff in BCSL and SC.

Overall, can't really make any sort of judgement from one verse.

I just hope that JP isn't lower-register 7 sting happy throughout the whole album.

My thoughts exactly, I really like it!

Well... I dont think thats bad, especially with mr bluebear not being on the ship ...
Then we can get heavy songs, proggy songs, and no cookiemonster...

BlackInk

I'm a little surprised some people didn't even like the clip.
