I think the colour could be some other, but cool design.  :tup

I think the color is awesome, but the brand could be some other.

What's wrong with Pearl?

I don't think the phrase "sizing down" is particularly applicable with any of MP's kits.

rumborak
So true! :lol

I still feel sorry for whoever is Mangini's drum tech! :lol

Everything. Once he gets endorsed by DW or Tama, let me know.

Also, Zildjian cymbals? Meh, at least it's not paiste.

*wonders if finish on the drums has something to do with new dt album artwork*

Has this been the case in the past?  It would make sense.

I can't recall the drum finish ever having anything to do with the artwork, usually the kick heads do though for the tour.

I can live with Zildjian, of course all of mine kept breaking which is why I switched to Sabian..............but Pearl? Them be fightin words.

How about this, if Mangini can play better than me on a DW kit, then he has to switch to DW.

That sounds so pretencious... Who are you?

And what's the deal with Pearl? Ian Paice use that brand and he's a living legend.

I'm not a pearl fan. It's like when ford drivers hate chevys or something, I side with Tama and DW and can't stand Pearl or Yamaha. But I am obviously just kidding about much of this, I don't really care if Mangini uses pearl.

It's a drummer thing.  My buddy is just like Adami. DW and Tama.

I'm sure it's very good. :)

I was just kidding, although I honestly don't like Pearl, it's more of a brand name thing than a drum quality thing.

CrimsonSunrise

Awesome set!  My first set was a Pearl... way back in the mid 70's.  I don't know much about brand quality now, but back them Pearl was King.

Well as a drummer i have the same preference in my experiance unless you buy a top of the line pearl kit they almost always sound very thin weak sounding drum compared to even DW or even PDP pearl gets smoked every time.

It looks as if MM is more engulfed by his kit than MP was. Or does it just look that way?

rumborak

Is that not just because MM plays from one spot and MP had two seats?

Well yeah, three bass drums around two seats is a lot less engulfing than four bass drums and overhead cymbals and drums over one seat.

Hey! Yamaha's are good (not as great as Tamas, of course)! Though Sabian shits all over Zildjian.

Fair enough, but imagine you get a job where you can get "for free" any car you want. And instead of getting a Roles, you get a Toyota.

Practicality   :P

Although this is coming from a Zildjian/Pearl user. The only thing I hate about Mangini is that he uses Zildjian sticks. It just feels kind of cheap. Although, this is coming from a Pro-Mark user.

Basically, my likes go- Pearl, Tama, DW drums, Zildjian cymbals, DW and Tama Hardware and Pro-Mark sticks and Evans heads.

Adami

Dw Drums, Tama Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Pro Mark Sticks, Gebralter Hardware, Iron Cobra Pedals.

Heads I'm negotiable about, but I usually stick to either Remo, Aquarian, or Evans.

I don't want to go off topic, but quick question to Adami- what kind of Pro-Mark? I use the Hickory 5A Nylon Tip

Usually the color scheme of the kit had something to do with the album cover, but not for every tour (e.g. MP's acrylic kit for the systematic chaos tour, which he claims it was also for tone (?)) and yeah the kick heads have usually resembled something from the album artwork.
Whether Mangini's new kit has anything to do with the new artwork or not, I think the idea of the paint job on the shells is to give it the affect like its a big machine or something :D. looks amazing.

Sabian makes Zildjian look cheap the only cymbal thats even comparable are their K Dark Dry rides.

Sabian was started by the guy who started Zildjian because he had a fallout with the company.

Wildoer

Now that's a cool kit!  :metal Can't wait to see MM play that kit with the band!!!

So how many mics will be needed for this?  Is every single piece of the kit independently mic'd?

A lot.

Usually, every drum is mic'd, with several overheads, a hi hat mic, and a few cymbals get their individual mics.

However, I'm not sure the new stuff will have octobons, since Mike said he pretty much got them because Portnoy uses them, so he needs them to play older stuff.

speaking of older stuff, has there been any news as to whether or not DT are going to still rotate set-lists now that MP is gone? he was the one in charge of it, after all. maybe i missed the update somewhere?

The Silent Cody

In DTNorway interview MM said that he received a massive list of songs for summer tour... so we can expect some setlist changes, I hope so...
