Large portions were written and demo'd with Derek.  It got reworked, but a lot of the familiar elements are there.

A part of me thinks that they are going to announce the drummer tomorrow because they just announced that they are finished writing. It doesn't feel like it's a coincidence, rather that this is how it's been planned. Finish writing--announce drummer--record.

It's either that or I hope US dates....

Just read this entire thread. I think if was rumborak that mentioned that now would be the perfect time to announce the drummer because they won't be able to hide him during the recording process. This makes sense. Perhaps tomorrow is the drummer announcement. Hopes are up a little. Anyway, I'm glad they spent so long writing. I would imagine they wouldn't want to put out anything less than a killer album.

So..... basically, this means that all the drummer speculation in the "place your bets" thread is completely useless because we thought the new drummer was recording and it could still be (for the most part) ANY of the other guys and all those "scheduling conflicts" that were used as a basis for ruling someone out don't matter.  Right?

No. Most of them are still currently busy and ruled out. But a few of them might be back in the mix.

Great news.....it is really happening. C'mon DT announcement already!  I still think Mangini is the one, or I hope Mangini is the one. 
It is the 4th in Australia 1.15pm, which means the announcement will be the middle of the night for us, all will be forgiven if it is the drummer announcement!

I am really excited for this album. I could be totally wrong, but for some reason I can already envision and even "feel" this album. When JR mentioned the Clapton inspired lead, and when he showed the organ sound, I can just imagine an album that has a very strong point, a very strong "soul" and will mix a lot of crazy ideas. I can ever hear an acoustic guitar solo by JP already...

This is, of course, baseless speculation, but perhaps part of the split arrangement with Mike was for the new guy to not have songwriting credit on this album, perhaps because they are using some previously written material?  Who the hell knows - I'm pumped for the new album/tour/drummer.
