Which album has your favorite snare drum sound from Portnoy?

I personally have always liked the snare from SFAM or FII. Although the one from ACOS is pretty close too.

What about you guys?

Nick

In before I&W snare debate.

Gadough

That's funny, I was actually going to say I&W.

PowerSlave

TheMadgician

I really loved the ACOS snare. Very powerful and out there

JayOctavarium

St Anger

I have to go with the majority . ACOS

Fuzzboy

FII and 6DOIT. I like dem big fat snares

?

Hard question, maybe the Awake one is the best. I like the snare on ACOS quite much too.

xeper

FII has some of my favorite drum production/MP performances.

darkshade

Majesty Demo's

jk

Train of Thought (not my fav album, but the snare really resonates on that album

Finally Tree

6DOIT, ACOS, Score and SFAM.

Mladen

Awake has a great snare sound. Also, what's wrong about snare drum on Images and words?

It's a sampled trigger, not a "real" snare.

Perpetual Change

The Images and Words snare sounds like the drums on a Casio Keyboard.

Fortunately, it meshes well with the album's overall production.

Okay, I guess I'm a bit stupid for drums. Can you explain me what that means? If you don't feel like it, that's okay.  ;D

Pirate

FretMuppet

Octavarium... it has a classic prog sound to it. As do the rest of the drums/cymbals on that album

Basically whenever Mike hits the snare on the album it's replaced by a sample, like a drum machine's snare.

Yeah. No matter if you hit the snare soft or hard, it produces the same sound. Popular in the 80s for instance.

Train Of Thought
A Change Of Seasons

Chino

I love the triggered snare on I&W

I have no real problems with it either, I'm so used to it now. I actually prefer it to the remixed songs on the Greatest Hit compliation.

Same here, never bothered me, even when I knew about it. I thought it was rather bothering that MP was ranting so much on their own best album because of it.

tri.ad

Awake and FII. Also, the I&W snare never bothered me either.

Dimitrius

6DoiT and ACoS have my favorite snare sounds.

MykeHavoc

I liked the sound of the snare on the remixed I&W tracks. Portnoy's natural tone is usually too clunky for me. I usually prefer sampled/triggered stuff as it usually cuts through the mix a lot better.

The ghost notes on LtL sound horrible because of the trigger.

pmahoney1337

Train of Thought sounds the best to me, followed by Awake.

ReaPsTA

Overall, Train of Thought and Awake.

Certain songs specifically have great sounds though, such as TROAE and TGD.

fuuuckkk.. I never noticed the ghost notes on that song. Now I can't un-hear them.

Where exactly in the song?
