Let's say the new Dream Theater album is released on August 11, 2011 (for example, 'cause it's on a Thursday)

On August 1, I am going to start listening to all of Dream Theater's albums, one album per day, leading up to the new album. (And probably squeeze in ACOS (the song) on the day i listen to FII, beforehand) i'm sort of holding out on listening to them until around that time, even though it's still looking like another 6-7 months before the new album comes out

anyone else doing something like this?

Leading up to the release of BC&SL, I listened to/watched nearly EVERY DT release, official studio, official live, YJR CDs and DVDs, and DTIFC's. Depending on my mood and time of year of release, I may do it again this time.

However, because of the new drummer, I may want to just drop the needle on this one cold, and not approach it with the "history" preceding this album and just listen to anything BUT Dream Theater leading up the DT11's release, and then just jump into it. It might make more of an impact on me if I don't unintentionally compare it to the last few DT albums.

6-7 months?, do you think they would tour this much before the album comes out?

wolfking

I don't usually do much stuctured listening like this, but with the new DT, I just might.

I do that already.

blackngold29

Yep, I do that for every album that comes out.

Jamesman42

I'm just gonna get the new album and enjoy it. Not changing any routines of my listening habits.
\o\ lol /o/

Super Dude

I always do the album marathon in the days before a release.  Of course I do an album a day though, but that's just me.

Perpetual Change

Last time we had a really cool series of threads about each album before Black Clouds came out. Everyone listened to and ranked a new album every week. It was cool. I hope we do it again.

Super Dude

Yeah I'd be up to bringing that back.
:superdude:

wilgod3p

not listening to DT until 10 days before the album comes out... impossible for me :-[

Phantasmatron

I'll probably do the album marathon thing in the days preceding the release of DT11.  I do that for a few other bands, too....Porcupine Tree, Redemption, OSI, etc.

?

Sounds like a cool idea to me! :) I could maybe do it...

Same here.  My listening habits are not planned, nor will they ever be.  I listen to what I feel like at that particular moment.  If I decide, in the weeks before the release, that I want to crank up a bunch of DT, then I will, but if I don't, then I won't.  It's as simple as that.

rumborak

If I did such a planned brute force listening bout of DT albums, I would probably be annoyed by DT at the end.

Super Dude

Daaaaaaamn, I don't even do that, I just listen to all the studio albums + ACOS. :lol
:superdude:

darkshade

yea thats too much, i would be sick of DT by the time the album came out. Just albums for me

tri.ad

I most definitely won't do anything like that.

Wait a minute... I'd listen to SC too, then! :|

I'll probably try to snag a physical copy before it comes out like I usually do.

+1

I've always gone with what I feel like at any particular moment rather than plan my listening. I probably wouldn't enjoy the music of it was to a plan.

Same here. Awhile back I wanted to do one a day until I had listened to them all. The first days I had When Dream and Day Unite, Images, and Awake, and those went fairly easily because even if I wasn't in the mood to listen to them I still got hooked on each a few songs in.

I could not making it through Falling into Infinity, though, so my marathon stopped there.

If it's one album per week, things might go much better.

TL

Whenever a band I'm really into has a new album coming out, I put their entire studio discography (including b-sides and rarities in some cases) in a playlist, and make a point of listening to the entire thing in order within a couple weeks of the album dropping. Obviously, DT is one of those bands for me. Truly an epic experience.

darkshade

I also always listen to what I feel like listening to, and never plan my listening habits. However, Ive never done anything like this before, so I think it'd be a neat experiment. And it's only ONE album per day...

Kosmo

Nah, just gonna pick it up and listen to it and then come complain here about the album and the drumming even though i'll be crying tears of joy because it's so good.
