Opinions?

IMO is the worst DT song. Heavy for the sake of heavy, completely forgettable.

Sigz

I enjoy it, but it could use some editing.

AcidLameLTE

If it took out the rap, it would be fine.

nikatapi

It's not their best song, but i like it quite a lot.

ariich

Starting a thread about what you consider to be their worst song seems like a really odd thing to do, but never mind. I really like HTF, solid 9/10 song, probably my 3rd favourite on TOT.

It's one of their underrated songs to me.

This. People give the LaCake rap too much credit and stop focusing on the rest of the song. It would be better if it didn't have it: sure, but it doesn't make the whole song a piece of crap.

The Letter M

I was just watching this on the SCORE DVD earlier. I think it's one of the better songs on Train Of Thought, in the middle tier with "Stream Of Consciousness" and "As I Am", and better than "This Dying Soul" (not by much) and "Endless Sacrifice" (by quite a bit).

I enjoy the used of the changing meter over the simple riff, à la "The Mirror". It's a good tune to  :metal to and has a lot of good ideas in it.

It's certainly not their WORST song, by far, but it's definitely near the bottom of the middle tier of DT songs.

That's the whole reason I like it, personally.

blackngold29

One of the best beginnings to any song.

Well I don't really have a favourite song and probably my top 5 has been debated to death because they are fairly popular songs in the DT community. I have a favourite album (Awake), worst album(SC) and worst song(HTF). HTF ruins my experience of ToT I skip it anytime it's on. The only thing I like about the song are the keyboards and those feel misplaced IMO.

ScioPath

I can enjoy it. It's decent at the least. I don't think DT has released anything that I would call 'bad'.

And btw this is FORKING AWESOME!!!!!  :metal

KevShmev

Very good song.  Probably the 3rd or 4th best song off of ToT.  And better than probably 14 of the 16 songs off the two albums that followed it.

Zeltar

It would be a great song if they took out the goddamn samples. That section drags on way too long and makes the song lose momentum. Someone's gotta make an edit of the song with the samples taken out.

Adami

It's a cool song I guess. Nothing terrible about it, some very cool riffs and keyboard riffs. And they didn't go off the deep end with the instrumental section, which is always good.

King Postwhore

I like that fact the Mike is angry in his lyrics and so is the song.  The middle section with the samples are a bit a too long.
"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'." - Bon Newhart.

Its got Steve Vai and Dream Theater in it, how could any song with the Progressive Gods be bad?

Actually its up there with my favorites, honestly, its amazing, the guitar is Epicheavy but written by good composers, The lyrics are sharp and sting to listen to, The Drumming is orgasmic, and the quotation section just wraps it all together in this epic package of epicness.

EDIT: shit, just realized Vai was in Systematic Chaos, my bad.

Adami

It has Steve Vai in it? What am I missing?

j

I don't really like it, but it has nothing to do with the "rap".

Hah, no, sorry, that was Systematic Chaos, I thought Steve Vai was in the Sample section. I screwed up bigtime.

The hell?

Oh, you mean the whole "Oh I'm so sorry, wahhh wahhh" part. Gotcha.

Top thirty, perhaps top twenty song.  Not one of the strongest on Train of Thought.

Yeah, the closest thing to DT and Steve Vai teaming up was Smoke on the Water at G3. but that was only Petrucci

No, Steve Vai jammed with them and Dweezil Zappa during Beyond this Life at the Prog Nation show last year in LA.

ScioPath

At the moment I cannot think of anything more awesome than that.

axeman90210

probably the most underrated song on the album (and second only to ITNOG for me). That song is like a warehouse for extremely :metal riffs

tri.ad

It's decent. I love the main riff, and I don't really mind the rap part. I absolutely despise the keyboard solo, though.

yeshaberto

I enjoy the song, but it isn't one of my favorites

cookienut

I don't love it...I like it. Much how I like cake.

Moonchild

So, I'm alone of desliking HTF.  :justjen

Zydar

It has its highs and lows, I quite enjoy it.

The first two verses are kickass btw.

We're taught unconditional love
That blood is thicker than water
That a parent's world would revolve
Always around their son or their daughter

You pretended I was your own
And even believed that you loved me
But were always threatened by some
Invisible blood line that only you could see

I love it.  It would probably be in my top 15 DT songs, maybe even top 10.
