All these would be a bit lower for me, but fairly good choices nonetheless :)

10. Another Hand/The Killing Hand
DT's first epic.. and what an epic. Another hand is brilliant and eargasmic, and the studio intro isn't too bad either - just stunning stuff. John Myung is killing this track right from the getgo. The main riff has an epic Queensryche feel to it as well - and what a riff it is. Charlie also sings really good on the studio version - but Labrie on LATM owns this track... To the actual songwriting, every part of the song is so well written and crafted together too, it's seamlessly written. Just a great piece of music.

9. Finally Free
This is another one of those WOW tracks. The main theme of SFAM returning, with its wonderful progression. The scene becomes darker though and when the song begins it's eargasmic. Right from JR's piano wizardry it's amazing. The real eargasm begins a bit later though - when the full band enters - at 2:50... it's a top 5 DT section for sure. Then there's the magnificent One Last Time reprise too, there's a lot of amazing stuff this song has to offer. The ending is quite stretched out though, could've been a bit condensed - but its purpose of wrapping up the album is done perfectly.

I doubt either those two would crack my top 25 which is interesting because all of the previous three would make my top 10!

Neither of those last 5 would be in my top 50, except for TCOT.

Jirpo

Good last choices, I would both a bit lower again though :)

Finally Free!  :heart

With only 8 picks left, it's time to speculate which song is no. 1. I predict Metropolis, ACOS or LTL.

Very bold predictions there... :p

8. Metropolis pt.1
Yup. Might be too low for some. The way I feel about this song, is that it's brilliant - but I like 7 other DT songs a bit more. To the song: it's amazing. Amazing intro. Epic Labrie performance. At 2:37ish begins a truly wonderful part of the song, with those chords with the crazy tone... love it. And I love the independence of every instrument throughout the song, which is also very evident in the chorus. The post-chorus JP riff is also one of the best JP riffs there is. And well, that's only half the song I've praised so far. The instrumental part is crazy to the max, and epic. Everybody gets to shine, even JMX. It's just so fun and the odd times are running wild - I absolutely adore that part. I can't pinpoint why I wouldn't have it at #1, I just don't connect to the song like I do with the other seven - even if it's amazing. I also love listening to this song, followed by SFAM - adds another dimension to both of them imo... just brilliance.

7. The Spirit Carries On
This song is just beautiful. The song builds upon the SFAM thematic progression which is just brilliant. It must be such a fun track to drum too, because about a minute in the drumming begins and it just gives me those "I wanna learn how to play drums" vibes, it's truly amazing. The song is emotional, lyrically wonderful and JP's solo is one of his best. What more is there to ask for in this song?

RG93

Wow, I did not expect TSCO, good pick!

jsem, you consider SFAM to be one song? Interesting...

Metropolis is my #1, Spirit Carries On would be quite a bit lower for me :)

My bad, I don't consider it to be one song.. lol. I meant to say to both pt1 and pt2...

TSCO :heart

Some people think it's cheesy, but I can't understand that. I love the song, and it's probably in my own Top 10.

6. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
This suite is amazing. It would be #1 if it weren't for certain parts of the song that just don't hold up. I'm talking specifically about The Test That Stumped Them All, which is just meh. To the good stuff though: Overture is amazing. The display of dynamics and the orchestration by JR is just magical. About to Crash: that's my second favorite movement - and it's just eargasmic from start to finish. War Inside My Head is a brilliant piece and the flow into it is just masterful. After the meh stuff in TTTSTA, Goodnight Kiss tones everything down perfectly and is just beautiful. The ending of it is also amazing, how from the solo is goes through the great JP guitar work and flows right into a top 3 DT song on its own merits: Solitary Shell. The lyrics speak to me even if I'm not aspergian or anything, they speak to me - because I'm an introvert. Also the song is just amazing, melodically, harmonically. And the instrumental part wrapping up the song  :hefdaddy :hefdaddy. The next section, is the reprise of About to Crash - and it begins with that epic soaring JP riff. The quality is consistent, and everything is wrapped up perfectly with Losing Time/Grande Finale. This song contains so many of the qualities which make DT unique and eargasmic... it deserves this spot.

5. Overture 1928/Strange Dejavu
This is the real controversial pick in my top 10. I love this song/act. I decided to group them together for the simple reason that they contain the exact same musical theme and run into eachother seamlessly. Overture 1928 is amazing, talk about a fun track. The solos, JMX's bass ninja skills - and that main riff that is incredibly tasty. What happens on Strange Dejavu makes it all better, with JLB coming in and owning the song. The best part is that BREAK IN STRANGE DEJAVU. COMING IN WITH JP'S GROOVIEST RIFF EVER. Seriously, I don't know if I have proggasmed more to anything ever than the first time I heard that part. I go nuts every time I hear it. This entire act is proggasmic to the max, and it earns the top 5 spot for a reason. SFAM couldn't start out better than this.

I am enjoying your list. That cool metal riff was actually a JM riff, according to the commentary.

Yeah that one in that song on their album...

I'm talking about Strange Deja-Vu.

Number 5 is quite surprising, yet an amazing choice! Glad to see this pair of songs getting some love.

Actually sounds like a total JMX type groove, like the stuff he plays on Solar Groove

Gysten

I do love these two choises. I would have About To Chrash and Strange Deja Vu in my top 10 to.

JayOctavarium

Interesting choices.  I disagree with Six Degrees... only because I don't like it as a whole... and I rarely find myself listening to the individual tracks.

and Overture / Deja Vu.... that wasn't expected... but awesome anyways

bloop

DT needs more short tracks that are like Strange Deja Vu.  :metal

Obfuscation

Well now, there isn't single controversial thing about your number 5 pick. It's just awesome, simple as that.
