Good ones. Blind faith wouldn't find its place in my top 50, though...

Wouldn't be in my Top 50 either. For some reason I can't seem to love this one like others do (aside from the piano break).

34. A Nightmare to Remember
RORORORORORO. DAY AFTER DAY...

Allright, that section destroys a potential top 10 song. But the rest is absolutely amazing. Peaceful sedation is in my top 10 DT sections, and it's just beautiful. The solo with that 7/8 riff is also excellent. There's enough awesome of this song to go around, it's sad what Mike did with those growls.

33. Raise the Knife
A real badass song. I love the groove of this, and the fact that this made its way to Score is great. JP has some excellent guitar work on the track that, in terms of riffage, is among his absolute best. The break in the song is absolutely epic, and going into the solo JM's bass groove really works really great against the atmospheric keyboards and the soloing. This song should have made it onto an album, it's much better than most FII material.

32. Another Won
Yup. This song is just great. That JM bassilne and so energetic there's nothing else like it in the DT catalog. I really like how much JMX was involved in the early days of DT/Majesty, and this song is a great example of that happening. The entire song is excellent in terms of riffage too, I really dig the verse riffage even though it's really simple as well. The wank section is also a display of how talented they were as songwriters so early. It's pretty sad how much this song is overlooked, this is an amazing song.

RG93

I agree on what you said about ANTR. The song goes so well until MP comes in with that line.

Nice to see RTK on your list as well.  :tup

Elite

Another Won should be higher and ANTR wouldn't make my list, but nice picks though.

Raise the knife and A Nightmare to remember are brilliant.   :metal

I must be one of the few who doesn't let the "growling" section ruin ANTR. It's a great song, with or without it.

Yeah, I had nothing against it either. I only dislike MP's growling when it goes right on top of LaBrie's singing. Cause that basically ruins the singing. But on its own, it wasn't too bad.

Panic Attacker

I've been watching as a lurker for quite some time. I'd like to be added to the list if possible, and look forward to commenting on other people's lists.

31. Endless Sacrifice
The intro and verse riff is just amazing. It's clean but still jam packed with atmosphere and slowly building up to the extremely heavy epic chorus. I just love it when that heavy part hits. The instrumental part beginning 5 minutes in or so is also a great show of what DT can do, JR's wizardry in the beginning with the solos and JP laying down some tasty riffs around 5:46 and onward. The song ends strongly. The solos are strong, and the entire tune has the Train of Thought ballsy style - done excellently.

30. Wither
Yeah, it's rather simplistic and everything, and the chord progression is one you hear a lot. I still like this song a lot though, it's packed with emotion and the solo is pure JP magic. Ear candy.

29. One Last Time
I love this song. Every part of it. I always sing along to this song. It starts out with pure wizardry of JR. When JP comes in and plays that muted thing, is just eargasmic from the get-go. The half-time feel that this song has really makes it wonderful, MP deserves real credit for the drumming on this one even though it's not some of his trickier material. And when the song goes places around 2 minutes into it with the solos, I cannot believe the stuff JMX is playing there - so groovy and epic. The ending is also just fantastic, that haunting piano part. Perfect lead-in to The Spirit Carries On.

One Last Time deserves a top 50 spot, yet it always is overlooked somehow. Kudos to you for putting it on your list!  :tup

I agree! Endless Sacrifice, Nightmare and Raise the Knife would all be higher for me :)

28. Peruvian Skies
This song is excellent. The main guitar riff is brilliant, and the entire song is really atmospheric. It's one of the stronger short DT songs for sure. When the song goes heavy, it also goes awesome - the main riff serves perfectly as a heavy ballsy riff. I don't have much else to say about it, it's just quality throughout. This includes that riff leading into the keyboard solo thing, everything happening there is just brilliant.

27. Stream of Consciousness
This instrumental is pretty badass. It also has a real shred solo, that is actually good. I love the main theme, dat section at 3:15ish. The entire song is a fest of what DT does best instrumentally basically, and all the riffs are excellent. The song does drag though, it's four or five minutes too long. It certainly drags it down a bit, which is sad.

26. Pull Me Under
It was the first DT song I heard. I wasn't blown away or anything, but I knew this was a strong metal tune. After a few listens I grew to love it, and rightfully so - it's a really strong tune. The JM/MP kick drum syncopations are epic, JP's riffs are stellar - and the entire song is extremely memorable. I don't have that much else to say about it, it's just a really strong song - but not one of DT's best.

PixelDream

Three awesome tracks.

Peruvian Skies just intensifies in such a cool way, and the (for JP) short solo is just orgasmic, especially because of the descending chords at the end of the solo. Just magic. Been blowing my mind lately with Stream, it's really good fun, and indeed a bit too long. At least the main theme and variations are great so it doesn't suffer too much. And I don't think 26 is too high for PMU, I still dig it as well. It feels to me like the prototype DT song, and it never ceases to give me energy.

RG93

Nice choices, didn't expect to see Peruvian Skies (at least it isn't no 3 this time!)

IMO, while SoC is draggy, I don't think it's 4-5 minutes too long, I'd just cut maybe a minute or so.

Gysten

Good choices. I personally i think SoC is just brilliant, i would have it in my top 15.

Ħ

The only song of the past 6 that I agree with is Endless Sacrifice.

Id like to be added to the list? By the time it gets to me ADToE might be released, and I can add those, maybe.

Haha I think LP12 may be released by then!  :-)  More choices for you!
Don't forget Chinese Democracy and Duke Nukem Forever.

I mean, okay, they're released now, but it still makes it sound like ages.

Sorry to go back to old posts but what 7/8 riff do you mean. I can only find 5/8 and (I don't really know how to divide this but..) 5/8-6/8 then 6/8-5/8.

Right at something like 7:20, it could be 7/4 though - it's one of DT's best riffs by far.

Yeah, that's 7/8. But no solo though as you said but I get what you mean now.

jsem

Yeah. My bad, the solo riff is pretty schweet too.

Next few:

25. Hell's Kitchen
This is a real nice tune. It's basically a guitar-fest. It's packed with emotional lead playing from JP in the beginning, and then it progresses with tightly structured proggasmic instrumental breaks in odd times, you know - DT's signum. MP's drumming on the piece is also excellent, and JM can be properly heard. I can't say more about this other than that it's beautiful.

24. Home
WOMP WOMP.
This song is badass, and the main riff speaks of that. I love it when the vocals kick in, I always headbang to that - and the song is strong throughout. The only thing about this song that I feel is bad is the porn section, or the orgasm section.

Well, to summarize my thoughts on that porn section I'll dig up a post from the Home appreciation thread:

I tend to *shiftyeyes* when the bonage comes in, just to see if there is a reaction from new listeners.
Me too. I didn't notice at first, til I listened for like the 25th time or whatever it was. Then I was like  :|. But it makes perfect sense to the story.
It'd be higher ranked if it weren't for the porn too, but yeah... things happen.

23. Hollow Years
Absolutely beautiful. That's the only way to describe this tune. JP's Budokan solo also takes this song to new dimensions, even though it didn't sway my position on the song's placement in the rankings. Stellar tune.

Awesome picks jsem!  I am in love with Hell's Kitchen.  One of their best songs.

MasterShakezula

Wow, you hit three homers, there, jsem!

Hell's Kitchen is my favorite DT instrumental and a great followup to BMS and lead in to LITS.

Home is EPIC, and one of maybe 3/4 songs I really enjoy from Metro#2.

And Hollow Years is a highlight IMO of FII, and one of my favorite softer DT tunes.

Your list's been a pleasure to follow, and I look forward to see what's next in line.   :tup
