Sorry for the delay. Super busy at university and some other unforseen circumstances have gotten in my way. I will try to get another update on here today to make up for my tardiness. Enjoy.

25. Voices
I know I will get tore to shreds for that having this song higher, but this song is really good, and by far the best song on Awake. This song has an amazing chorus, and this could be John Petrucci's best lyrical contribution in Dream Theater history. Nothing stands out to me in this song besides the chorus, which gives me chills evertime, but this song is just solid from start to finish.

24. Home
One of the few songs on Scenes From A Memory that works as a standalone song, and because of that it is the highest ranking song from that CD on my list, even though as a whole, SFAM is one of my favorites. Great work on here my John Myung, and the whole first 2 minutes really give an "egyption" sort of feel to it, something you would hear on Alladin or something.  :lol Some parts of this song go on too long, and like I have said a few times, I like the version on the Greatest Hits better than the original because it keeps this in-your-face style song in-your-face.

23.Disappear
I think we can all agree that this is one of James' best studio performances since probably the Images and Words era. He pours so much emotion into it, no wonder so many people thought he was writing about an actual experience he had. I don't know what it is about this song, another haunting intro with the sounds and piano really sets it up, and great acoustic work by JP. All in all, one of DT's best "soft" songs, and a real gem in their career. Also, it fits perfectly on 6DOIT, that whole 2 disc set is amazing, and this is a needed aspect of that release.

22. Repentence
Simple, repetetive, yet extremely powerful and beautiful. To me, this is the high point of the AA suite, and would love to have the opportunity to see this live, but alas, with all that has gone down recently I doubt if I will. The lyrics are some of Mike's best in my opinion, James nails it, and the other three J's back it up with some amazingly subtle music. This song contains what I think is one of John's best solo's. it is so touching and moving and just perfect for this song. Everything about this song is perfect, except the ending does drag on just a little bit, however, I do love that ending with all the confessions and whatnot, a great idea by Mike.

21. Forsaken
A chilling piano intro leads into a pretty kickass open riff. This song has all the goods to me, great emotion, vibe, lyrics, chorus, it's just an all around good song. Dream Theater really put it all together for one of their best "mainstream" songs. The music isn't anything that's going to blow anybody away, except the solo is pretty damn good. Other than that it's just a really solid song start to end with no weak points. I love how they wrap it up with the piano intro turning into the outro, really puts it together perfectly.

I'd have Home quite a bit higher and the other 4 much lower. Apart from Repentance, they are all pretty good songs.

Good to see someone else liking Forsaken, I don't think it's nearly as bad as others do  :tup Although I still wouldn't rank it that high.

Forsaken? :yeahright

Other picks are good though.

Ah... Forsaken... I hate it.. Sounds so cheesy to me, lol. I just.. can't listen to it.. I never got in that song, really, same about The Dark Eternal Night.

I respect your opinion letters, but can you explain why you hate Forsaken so much?

Ħ

Forsaken is low for me, but not the worst.  I think letters forgot about YNM, BMS, and SS.

Repentence is meh for me--I'm surprised to see it this high.

Great other picks, though.

SS? Don't tell me you mean Sacrificed Sons? I can't think of anything else.

Ħ

Forgot that SS could mean "Sacrificed Sons."  I meant Status Seeker.

20. This Dying Soul
Balls to the wall from start to finish is a way to describe this song. Lyrics and the way they are sung is pretty crappy, but I can get over that. In my opinion this is probably Dream Theater's heaviest song. I love JR's and JP's solos over the riffage, pretty much happens all over the place, but especially after the chorus'. It has a much needed "rest" around the 2 minute mark, before it explodes again into more awesomeness. The one part that always stands out for me is the crazy ass soloing by JP near the end of the song that JM just plays a simple yet awesome bass riff that always reminds me of a clown running or something, yet it fits amazingly well with the solo.

19. Another Won
Another song I am just going off of memory since I have only ever heard the Score version. I love playing this song on bass, John's lines are fun to play and quite complex. This song gives off a lot of energy, and from what I can remember it looks like they have a lot of fun playing the older stuff.  Great keyboards, but the lyrics are kind of meh, but I still love this song.

18. The Root of All Evil
Another song from the AA suite, great ambient start leading into a heavy opening riff. A great way to start of Score in my opinion. Some good lyrics in hear, especially the chorus, which I love. The song has lots of energy, it's heavy yet isn't considered as heavy very often, so it is sort of disguised in that regard. I like the breakdown starting at 3:45, and the way James delivers the lyrics here fits perfectly. However, the reprise of This Dying Soul just doesn't work all that well for me.

17. Pull Me Under
DT's only "hit" is just that. Amazing mix of everything in here, and a great song for DT to have on Guitar Hero, as it kind of sums Dream Theater up into a short compact song. Heavy at parts, soft and subtle at others, yet they work together to form one of Dream Theater's most enjoyable and upbeat songs, which clashes with the topic of the song. I love the short little solo's JP has before the chorus', they are brilliant and fit the song perfectly. Great song.

16. I Walk Beside You
I know this will be a controversial pick, but this song is absolutely brilliant, beautiful and emotional. Everything about it grabs me and twists my brain in a different way and makes it so enjoyable to listen to. The lyrics are very powerful and James delivers them perfectly. John's bass line is probably the simplest in his DT discography, yet it is undeniably effective. I love the interlude after the second chorus with the aaah's, gives me the chills and makes me happy everytime. If and when I get married, this song will play played at the ceremony, and it will make the happiest moment of my life that much greater.  :heart

Ħ

Wow.  Not a single one of those would make it in my top 50.  Really surprised here.

Jarlaxle

Pull Me Under wouldn't be in your top 50? That is really surprising.

Ħ

The song just reminds me of bad coffee breath.  I dunno.  Pullll me underr,  pulllll me underrr, pull me undderr.....it has the same feel as Never Enough in my eyes.

Jarlaxle

Wow, I don' think I've ever heard anybody not like Pull Me Under, it's like a consumate DT song like LtL, just not as good.

AwakeFromOctavarium

Pull Me Under would be barely in my Top 30.

As of now, your list is a lot different from mine.

Doubt it. If I remember correctly, he's not an aCoS fan. I could be thinking of someone else though.

WHAT

Status Seeker is a legitimately awesome song. Besides Forsaken is worse than any song even in the unholy trinity of Falling Into Infinity

I'll do it for him. LaBrie's voice is absolutely horrendous and cheesy in Forsaken. John Petrucci's guitar tone is atrocious and awful, and I can't stand hearing those riffs. Myung is completely buried in the mix, and Portnoy's fills come off as boring and predictable to me. The only redeeming thing about Forsaken is the little piano intro. That's it. About 30 seconds and the rest of the song is awful. DT's worst song for my money.
