(hef)Father, is it true? Bug was always you?

Remember how this was the first and only time "Bug" was ever mentioned in the album? And that you needed the extended notes from some website or something to know that it was a name on Faythe's music player?

So many baffling decisions on that album. :lol

The Astonishing and Scenes From a Memory are similar in that regard: the weakest part of both albums is the story.

I literally had no idea that 'that' was what 'bug' referred to. On one hand, I feel better knowing that it wasn't just some sort of lyric-sheet typo (which I've always half assumed it was), but having just reviewed the lyrics, I remain as confused and bewildered today as I did when the album was released.

I LOVE JP, but the man has single-handedly written some of my all time favorite lyrics ("Lines in the Sand," "Voices") and some of my all time least favorite ("The Astonishing," "The Count of Tuscany"). No disrespect to him–definitely a 'me' problem.

I hope that they do no "Official Visualizer" or animated music videos for this album. I find them both to be extremely unnecessary.

I have concerns too. just a few weeks ago people were chiding me for suggesting this album wouldn't be out before the first show in Britain but it's pretty obvious this album isn't coming out before that

Sorry been a busy couple days. Lol I am hoping they release all formats and possibly just delay vinyl. I forget exactly who but a band just did that... early October release is still doable. I hope lol

It was for me. Was hoping to spark some discussion if anyone here did as well (and it looks like it did, so mission accomplished :tup)

Have a good day, dad

I, for one, omenjoy your posts.

That said I thought JLB was a hobbiest drummer at most.

With regards to vinyl pressing, I don't think a delay in pressing will cause a delay for albums. I've pre-ordered tons of vinyls from bands that aren't Tswift huge and while there are frequent delays it never affected the release/tour cycle. I feel like it'd be the same way with DT

Dream Team

For the 99% of us interested in real-world discussions about DT, Chance LaBrie wouldn't factor. I realized today that someone is like a Vulcan or Data with his emotion chip attempting humor but not sure how it works.  :P

Since other Inside Out artists have done them lately, I suspect there will be at least one video with "AI art" used with that smeared-images-as-animation stuff that people are submitting.

Nope. He was professional as in a drummer in a band with paying gigs. As stated above, I think he sang and did drums simultaneously. When he switched to vocals only I doubt if he touched the drums again until he decided to mess around on his son's drums and....it didn't go so hot.

ReaperKK

Damn, I didn't realize he was a pro. I haven't looked yet but are there any vids or bootlegs?

ReaperKK

Alright.......

What if James picks up the sticks and MP does lead vocals. Would anyone want to see that? If so what DT song should they do?

I feel like the trick would be to find both the easiest song vocally and on drums.

He did something similar with Repentance with the Shattered Fortress band. Ray, the drummer for Haken, played the drums while MP sang.

That's adorable.

That's what I thought as well :lol. I would've thought he would have a bit more, I don't know if it's stage presence, but I guess more confidence. When he is behind the kit he is so much more animated (I realize the song isn't what one would call high energy)

Not that I'm aware of. I think the earliest James footage available is from Winter Rose about a year or two before he was in DT. Other than that, only pictures from other projects. I think he may have given up drums by his late teens/early 20s and he was in his late 20s when he joined DT.

Yeah, the air drumming's great :lol He looks kinda lonely and uncomfortable. Which fits the song but probably wasn't intentional. He was almost busting out Axl Rose-style wriggling shapes à la Sweet Child a few times. Great stuff

Right, because his percussion zone or whatever they called it from the FII years worked out so well.

Why not give James a Cajon so he can sit stage while adding a percussive layer to the music

This kind of reminds me of something Grateful Dead (and Phish, on occasion) used to do. They would call them "rotation jams" where they would all swap instruments for a song (this wasn't very common, not a nightly thing) and play a song + jam it out a bit on different instruments.

I think the idea is it forces creativity or a different pace or something, but honestly it usually ended up sounding like a big 'ol train wreck, lmao

That being said I would love to be in the audience when JLB gets behind the kit. It would probably be an iconic moment even if a train wreck followed

I remember a lot of punk shows that I would go to in my teens did the same thing, rotate instruments and play a couple covers and originals.

Yeah, it's the kind of thing that riles up an audience in the moment, but whenever you hear it played back on tape afterwards it never sounds that good LOL
