Starting to catch up with some 2016 releases plus other stuff.
Return to Ommadawn: I love the original
Ommadawn so I was a little worried about this sequel or whatever but also cautiously hyped for it. And it actually is pretty good! Although it doesn't have the fierce passion and energy of the former album, instead is more relaxing, simpler, and contemplative. Kinda fitting for a 60yo man.
Zorya: This is uhh... great electronic stuff? RYM says it's Nu Jazz, Downtempo, Ambient, IDM, yet doesn't really sound like any of those genres. Very interesting music here. Guy made the
Machinarium soundtrack btw.
Channel Orange: Both roulette stuff and one of bae's top 100 (almost done with it). Kinda underwhelmed at first but it's grown a bit after some listens. Yeah I dig this R&B thing.
V: Now THIS is an album I was dead worried about - considering their last albums just expected it to succ. And it's actually good! Prob a little cheesy or overdramatic here and there but it's better than what I expected.
No Plan: Basically Lazarus plus 3 tracks that didn't make it to
Blackstar. Damn, they're really good! Definitely don't fit with the record's sound but excellent songs on their own, mostly
Killing a Little Time.
The Epic: Dunno, on one hand I really like some songs here, but on the other it's just so fucking long and there are several tunes I'm not into. Will prob give it a few more chances to see if it grows more on me.
