I went with my dad as a teen and shot his 357 magnum but I have never owned a gun.

I shot a rifle, but it was a long time ago (I don't think I was more than 13 or 14). My dad's cousin lives out in the boonies of northwestern NJ and we were up there visiting once and he, my dad and I went out into the woods with one of his rifles and they let me fire off a couple rounds. I kept the target diet coke can that I hit as a little trophy for a while, but I've never felt compelled to go to a range or anything like that.

That was at a shooting range in Las Vegas, the one and only time I really shot a legit gun. An MP15 with suppressor and had the red dot sight (forget the name of that reticle attachment). Insanely easy to shoot, accurate, silent, and light. It was $50 with a groupon for $40 off and I shot 15 rounds.

Good stuff.

Although the more time goes on, the more I realize how stupid and ignorant the whole Star Wars vs Star Trek thing is. One is fantasy space opera adventure, the other is scifi. One is more a movie franchise, the other is more a television franchise. Like one, like both, like neither, who cares.

Star Trek could never win in a popularity contest.

The Force Awakens took over $2 bn at the box office.

The highest grossing Trek movie ever took less than $500 m

EDIT : I just checked and - not counting reissues and special editions - the lowest grossing Star Wars movie is still more than Trek's highest grossing movie.

Star Wars is very mainstream in appeal, the figures back that up easily. It's easy to digest. Nothing wrong with that.
Star Trek is science fiction with allegory and morals and exploring the human condition, all the stuff the average person doesn't want to have to think about.

It's not well suited to big budget Hollywood movies like Star Wars is.

But let's not pretend that Box Office Gross equates to quality.

Star Trek Beyond will end up the lowest grossing of the Kelvin Timeline movies but it is by far the best one.

I would never argue that box office = quality.

The highest grossing Star Trek movie is Into Darkness (?), which I'd argue is by far the worst of them.

My favourite recent scifi movies are the indie ones that probably lost money even on their tiny budgets.

I wonder on Mythbusters if they ever found that their results proved something illegal was entirely possible -

- so they had to fake their results to make it seem like it wasn't possible or they'd be showing you how to break the law.

I'm with you but it is funny that people promote one over the other. Why can't you enjoy both like you said?!

I'm definitely a Trekker - but I thought The Force Awakens was great - and went to see it twice.

The proximity of it to A New Hope didn't even bother me. It was a fun space adventure.

I'm into Rogue One and Episodes 8 and 9 but the other two "Anthology" movies don't interest me.

A "Solo" Han movie and a possible Boba Fett movie ? Nah im good.

I bet the normal people made up the rivalry to pit the fans against each other, so we don't band together to rule the galaxy.

So, our laziest , clumsiest, takes-a-day-off-on-the-flimsiest-pretext- staff member crashed her car drunk-driving last night

I'm guessing a hefty fine, probably lost her licence. What an absolute idiot.

She went out to get "wankered" because it happened to be her birthday.

Such a shock. I was under the impression that only fun magical good things happen when you get steaming drunk.

Pretty good. Didn't do much Friday night or Saturday besides organize my beer stash (which is a project), although I also managed to not make as much of a dent in my backlog of TV to watch as I would have liked. About to go out for a morning run and then I think the family's going out for breakfast. Then it's just football all day.
