Sometimes having the power out is worse than having to get something repaired. My father has always said "a problem you can solve by throwing money at it is an easy problem to solve" whereas when you're without power, you simply have to wait and wait for the electricity to be restored. Of course, my father could say that when he had the money to throw at the problem, but the gist of what I'm saying is when something needs to be repaired, it is at least mostly in your own hands to solve, instead of having to wait for others.
